In Egypt at this time, just a cold! The air temperature is unacceptably low + 22 + 25 degrees. The water is close to the formation of an ice crust, approximately +20 +21 degrees. Think about it, is it really possible to go on vacation in such a frost? Winter is still...
My advice: spit on the "advisers". If you want to feel the summer, relax and impress your child, go without hesitation. Great vacation!

"Bad" weather can be called only for one reason - because of the winds. In Egypt, from the end of November until about the end of February-beginning of March - the season of winds. That is, before sunset - it is quite comfortable and warm, after, when the sun sets - the wind is felt stronger. When leaving the sea, the wind blows, due to this, the sea may seem cold.
In Hurghada, the wind season is more noticeable, I would advise you to go to Sharm El Sheikh, where the wind is felt less. At the same time, you can choose a hotel with a carved path among the corals, or with a sandy sunset, so that it is convenient for the child.

I won’t dissuade you from going to Egypt in winter, but still I would advise you not to choose Hurghada, but Sharm, and don’t go to Nabka for anything, because of the stormy sea and winds in the sea, you definitely don’t buy it.
аватар Pachok
Yes, Nabka is POP! Be sure to specify in which bay the hotel is located. And yet, with a child, I would wait another two months, until mid-February, when it starts to warm up.

I returned from Hurghada 2 weeks ago. "Hurricane" there is usually 2-3 m/s, occasionally more than 5 m/s. You know, in Russia, in the central part, a stronger wind constantly blows, so, in my opinion, this is not a particularly annoying discomfort. In Sharm, the wind is a little weaker, in my opinion generally pleasant, this is a matter of taste. And then people read about the "season of winds" and believe that these are heavy winds that tear off roofs and rain showers!
The waves in my hotel were less than 20 cm (Steigenberger), one might say, light ripples
аватар In_Wonderland
How much wind is felt depends not only on the resort, but also largely on the hotel itself. If you are talking about Steigenberger 5 *, then there a 5-story building will certainly protect you from the wind better than a 2-story building, for example.
The season of the winds is the season of the winds, the wind blows, and it is felt. Less in Sharm. Therefore, trying to protect people from an unsuccessful vacation, we are trying to advise where it will be better.
аватар genieko
Go to Sharm to the Oasis Reef or Faraana - you will definitely not feel the winds.
Although, as Ruslan33 says, the winds in Egypt are not squalls that blow you off your feet. Discomfort occurs when you get out of the water - immediately you need to "hide" in a towel)))
аватар Ruslan33
Thank you, Alexander.
In general, what is surprising is that our Russian people live modestly in everyday life, they are satisfied with the service in stores, in the south we have housing that is not cheap anywhere, and they lie on towels on the beach, and the weather on the Black Sea is not very hot, the sea is not very hot ...
Then they come to Egypt. Not only do they not give a lot of money, they start arguing at the hotel, they blame the service, and the weather is + 26 in January, it’s cold for them, and the breeze of 2-3 m / s is almost like a tornado for them ...
Gentlemen, let's look at things objectively. January - it is also in Africa (read Egypt) January, winter. And in winter, such weather conditions are a blessing! If you want heat - go to the southern hemisphere, but in Egypt at this time just WARM weather and WARM sea. This is such a simple thing...
аватар Bulo4ka
I agree with Ruslan) I repeat: it’s worth going to Egypt, but to Sharm!
аватар Karmel
Ruslan, I want to tell you that it is clear that you belong to the category of "non-freezing" people. Personally, I'm cold in Egypt in December-January. It's objectively cold. Yes, you can sunbathe in the daytime, but it's cold in the evening. And sometimes the temperature drops to 11-12 degrees in the evening. And you can't call it WARM weather. And the winds are really piercing. And at night without a heater it is very uncomfortable to sleep. So it is not necessary to say that it is warm and summer there. And with a child, I would certainly wait until March, because the sea temperature in winter in Egypt is certainly not for children. I don't always swim there in the winter.

I will not speak for or against. I'll just say a fact. Was in Hurghada last winter from 17 to 24 January. There were no winds (which I know), just a light breeze. But. Only my friends swam in the sea, and then after a good dose of alcohol. I don’t think that only merzlyaks rested with us. It was very difficult to go out for a walk in the evening without a good jacket. In addition, a long cold rain poured down in the evening, which generally caused me a shock, because. I have never seen anything like this in Egypt. The sun was shining during the day, but it felt like someone had opened the door of a large refrigerator and icy air was constantly coming out of it. All in all, not very good. But then I was in December from 19 to 26, if I'm not mistaken, there were strong winds (forged chairs flew into the pool), but it was warm and comfortable. The water was warm and everyone swam. In the evening, a light windbreaker and that's it. This year too (a week ago I returned from the advertiser) it is warm and comfortable.
By the way, it was the coldest in Taba, and the warmest in Hurghada. Conclusion: year after year is not necessary. It's up to you to take the risk or not.
аватар orhideya21
"year after year is not necessary." I agree with Amir. Last year I had a rest in December, it was very warm. Scored topics this time (December again). In the evening, sitting in an open-air bar or having dinner on the summer terrace (it's more comfortable), we dreamed of warm socks and a fireplace. "Baked" the old fashioned way. Many tourists were wearing raincoats. Gas heaters ended in a day, gas was delivered in 2-3 days. In one of the reviews I read useful advice - "take with you (for a child) a terry bathrobe for a comfortable exit from the sea." Sometimes the robe was missing.
BUT WE ARE VERY SATISFIED WITH THE REST!!!

I agree that year after year is not necessary
but even so, the water in the sea does not fall below 19 degrees
the weather allows you to sunbathe quite
yes - windy and cool, uncomfortable to get out of the water
but it's all so small in comparison
with the weather at home :)))
ice, frost - horror :(((
IMHO - I would love to go to Egi in January

Many thanks to everyone for the replies. Yes, I understand that it doesn’t happen year after year, but I wanted to hear feedback from someone who was there at that time, you helped me. Thank you all again. P.S. ALL congratulations on the upcoming NEW YEAR and good weather :-)!!!
аватар In_Wonderland
Thanks Net-7 :)
And Happy New Year to you!
windless to you (and to us too:) Egypt!)
аватар Ruslan33
Carmel, I guess I'm one of those. True, I can remind you that in Russia in the summer a good quarter of the evenings can be about 11-12 degrees. And usually 17-18. Everything is just like in Egypt. I understand that it's nice to go to Egypt to take care of it so that, sorry, for men, hard-boiled eggs become from + 40, but there are people who like more moderate weather. And at night, in order not to freeze, I preferred to close the door to the balcony, it was really cool to sleep with it open! )))
аватар Karmel
I envy your cold resistance, Ruslan !!! :))
I wish you all a great New Year's Eve!!
And warm weather in Egypt for the new year to everyone who travels !! :))
аватар Ruslan33
Envy is not a vice! Thanks, and Happy Holidays to you!

Thanks to everyone for the advice, I’ll warm up, I’m flying to Sharm on January 13, I used to always fly in April and August, crawling from the heat.

Please tell me I'm going on vacation in January, when is the best time to buy tickets?
аватар dianadevdariani
In Egypt, not the first time (in 2009 lost count on the 12th), and at different times of the year. Were in January-February. It is best to take tickets from February 6th! For some reason, it is from the 6th that the wind stops as if on command! And it repeats from year to year!!! (Locals confirm). But, we must pay tribute, the winds, as such, do not cause much discomfort, they are not felt at all during the day, the coolness is heard only in the evening, but knowing that you are traveling in winter, you can take a windbreaker with you. The sea, of course, is much cooler than in April - May, 21-23 * C., but remember Black in July!!!

What hotel in Sharm can you recommend?
аватар Zhong
We have 2 Chinese students, now we are studying in St. Petersburg. We want to go to Egypt in January. And can you help us to get a visa to Egypt?
1.How much does one cost?
2.What do we need to prepare?
аватар orhideya21
If you buy a ticket at a travel agency, then a visa to Egypt is bought at the airport of Sharm or Hurghada ($ 25)
аватар ninonchik
We bought tickets for January to the BARCELO TIRAN SHARM 5 hotel * located in the Nabq reserve. This is like the first hotel from the airport. Can it really blow strong winds? or are there mountains that will save us? :)
аватар orhideya21
This is not the first hotel but at the end of Nabq. There is wind everywhere in Nabq, the latest fresh impressions are here

thank!
And the wind is a loose concept .... really sand in the face flies ?? and unrealistically cold? or approximately as in the Crimea? I'm flying to Egypt for the first time, is the end of the Nabq a normal place?
аватар orhideya21
The sand does not fly in the face :) It's cold to get out of the water in the wind :) The place is normal, just the first hotel is not from the airport, but from the opposite side. This is +5 minutes in range. roads, if non-stop. But the settlement of other tourists on the road will take min. 20-30 usually.

Rested with a friend in December 2017 (from December 22 to December 29). The weather was warm, the wind blew sometimes, but did not cause discomfort. Compared with Russia, the usual summer is in the middle lane. During the day up to +27, and at night a little cooler up to 15 - 17 heat. The rest was a success, if you did not want to swim in the sea, basked in the sun by the pool (it is heated). My opinion is that winter holidays in Egypt are more comfortable.
аватар Natali591
I clarify, we rested in Hurghada, I like Hurghada hotels more when compared with Sharm.
