Linnankatu 80.20100 Turku, Finland

For more than 700 years, the formidable castle of the city of Turku has been towering above the Aura River, and, finally, it has waited for me. The dimensions of the castle and the building itself impress almost immediately, although you won’t find much glamor here, but that’s why it is more real and gothic than any other stone mansion.

I learned about the castle in Turku a couple of hours before visiting it. Being rather phlegmatic towards the city itself, my eyes became more and more rounded as I browsed the Internet for the sights of the city. After 20 minutes of digging on the Internet, the trace in my room was already cold, and I was already jumping along the artificial paths on one foot, as the second was still resisting the boot pressing on it. I reached the castle almost by hitchhiking. Why practically? Yes, because the driver, whom I talked to drop me there, was already obviously standing, so physically I didn’t seem to stop him.

Although then everything was according to the canons and the road was free.

After that, of course, I regretted a little about such an irresponsible speed with which I wanted to get to the castle, since I was looking for the way back to the countryside in the dark and in 15 degree frost. And this is not the most exciting activity, without a map, GPS and people on the roads who could at least wave my hand in Finnish in a given direction. Well, at least the driver wrote me the name of the street where I needed to return, otherwise I would have stayed to earn extra money in this castle until they rushed to look for me myself.

The castle is quite real and looks very sinister. Here you should turn off your mobile phone and turn it on to your full imagination. The creaking of the floorboards, the oppressive silence and the coldness of the stone walls can quite naturally immerse you in the medieval period.

You can imagine yourself as a lonely person without an impressive family, forced to get bored in the labyrinths of a huge castle. Doors are open almost everywhere and the effect of "museism" is removed as much as possible. Let's just say that I would not let preschool children with a developed imagination here. If I was able to get lost in the labyrinths of my own illusions, then impressionable children may well be frightened.

Add to that the fact that almost all this time I traveled alone. No, there were, of course, still visitors, and caretakers meet here and there. But, in general, the castle was rather devastated, and if someone creaked somewhere in the distance, this could only enhance the impression, rather than dispel it with another Japanese onlooker with a soap dish at the ready, as in all other castles.

In general, if, quite by accident, I were locked up here alone, then my fantasy could bring to nervous exhaustion.

In one of the rooms, games of almost all generations are presented.

From domino cards to full 3D surreal. In addition to the spread over the years, here they also vibrated across the continents. Games for different intelligence and imagination. The exhibition is very informative and extremely interesting, especially for children. On an equal footing with the computer version of Starcraft, a paper version with cards, chips and other paraphernalia a la "Manager" was presented here. For a moment, I managed to plunge into childhood and remember how the imagination finished everything for us. How a game on some kind of cardboard came to life before my eyes and carried away the worst of a heaped shooter in these days. How easily we imagined ourselves in the place of a real businessman, or fought with drawn heroes, turning drawn pictures into real heroes, endowing them with emotions and feelings. And now, even when the game is thought out to all the smallest details and the reality is already initially different, it cannot capture and immerse in such a way. The childhood years were good.

The castle pleases with the ability to move in almost any direction. Of course, there are some arrows here that indicate the direction of the bypass. But the element of surprise always remains. In addition, in the most significant rooms there are information stands with explanatory notes in the main languages and Russian, including. And, of course, what a castle without dungeons. They are also present here, and not quite in a festive form. It is better not to take children there unnecessarily. Come on, then explain what's why. “And these, son, are tongs so that uncle does not keep his mouth shut. And here they are heated so that uncle does not freeze! ". This only happens with the Germans. You can look at German interpretations of children's fairy tales about the seven kids or Cinderella, for example.

And in the room with trophies and stuffed animals it was generally fun. There is a very good voice acting.

First, the constant sound of dripping water, then the cat began to stir, and when I began to leave the room, the wolf began to growl and howl, which only pushed me to the exit even more.
