To get started, take a map of France and mark on it the cities you want to visit. Then you buy a ticket for a plane, train or bus (whatever you like best) and book hotels in the cities where you are going to go. Then, go to the website of the French railways and book tickets for transfers (if any). And forward to the adventure.
P.S. do not forget to open a visa

Thank you very much for your reply. That's pretty much how they imagined it. Do you need to receive an invitation from the French side to open a visa?

There are several types of visas, including tourist, short stay, etc. Documents everywhere require an invitation, whether from the host or from the tour operator with whom you are traveling.
Details on visa issues can be found on the website of the French Embassy in Ukraine: http://ambafrance-ua.org/-Viizi-ii-poslugi-iinozemcyam-

Thank you for the answer!!

An invitation is not needed (I opened 2 visas for my family at the French Embassy in Ukraine).
All you need is hotel reservations (a printout from Booking.com is enough) and airline tickets (a reservation printout from any airline agency is also enough).
I booked a car rental online. There are counters at the Charles de Gaulle airport and right there on arrival you take a car (our Ukrainian driving license will do), only a prerequisite - a VISA card or any other must be in the name of the driver with the rights!!!
Go ahead, it's very interesting - to organize the trip yourself!!!

Great story, great trip! :) I would like to clarify a couple of questions. I know that it is cheaper to travel to some countries with the help of a tour operator, and to some on your own. I read an article here the other day - http://www.aif.ru/travel/article/52872 - of course I disagree a little with it, if you do everything right in Egypt, you can also save money. But not the point. There is nothing written about France. So I want to ask you, maybe someone went recently, even last year. How is it more profitable and convenient? I'd like to be on my own, of course. Interested in questions about housing (booking) and the road. Thanks in advance for your replies.

If you want to be your own head - you have to go on your own. If you want to be led by the arm - take a tour. You won't get a significant difference.
If for the first time abroad - take a tour, if you have been there - why do you need guides?
Housing - booked at booking - paid on the spot - cards are accepted everywhere
The road - if you are not tied to work, then it is quite possible to catch sale flights

We were, though 1.5 years ago, but I think the prices have not changed much. a round-trip ticket from Moscow cost 8,000, but you need to take a couple of months in advance if you want to save money. hotels are quite expensive - about $ 70, but this is Paris)) If you want to save a little money, also book in advance through online services, it's much cheaper than contacting a hotel upon arrival. And if there is a flight delay, you can rebook the hotel. A tour costs an average of 800 euros. So it's cheaper by at least 30%.

Iromix, you need to fly to Europe only on your own, there are practically no differences between the Czech Republic, as indicated in your article. Therefore, I always like to read such information, as certain conclusions can be drawn. A Schengen visa allows you to move around Europe freely. The main thing is to determine the time of the trip in time, then booking plane tickets, booking hotels will be much cheaper. As already mentioned here, you need to make a clear trip plan, the places you want to visit. Print maps so you don't get lost. It is desirable to know English, in the case of France - French.

Well, maps are useful - but in addition to them, fill in the nafigator in your app / tablet

Iromix, I just started traveling on my own, but now it’s like a drug for me) go to France boldly, you don’t need to know French, for example, I’m not strong in English, but I never had any problems in communication, the French are very friendly people) I’m going to Paris on November 25, I bought the tickets a long time ago, I also monitored a couple of days and caught the moment, saved almost 40 euros) I booked the hotel a couple of weeks ago through an online service, I also saved a little money, because it costs more to check in upon arrival. but now I’m thinking of changing the hotel, since the service allows you to do it without problems, since it turned out that exactly on these days my friend in the army service with his wife will be there.

As an accommodation, it is absolutely not necessary to book a hotel. It is often more profitable to rent an apartment (especially if you are more than 2 people, for example, for a family with children, renting one large room will be more expensive than renting an apartment). In the apartment you can also save on food, because they always have a kitchen with everything you need. Thus, you can buy groceries in the supermarket and cook meals for the whole family.
The French Consulate, without any problems, issues visas upon presentation of a rental agreement instead of a hotel reservation. Actually, a rental agreement is the same document confirming the availability of housing in France, as well as a hotel reservation.
If someone needs recommendations for centrally located, clean and comfortable apartments for a reasonable price, I will be happy to suggest where to turn.
Sincerely,
Ekaterina
