Greece. Halkidiki. 3*, breakfast. Here is our initial data when choosing a hotel. We started with travel agencies. There, as if by agreement, they began to offer "Simeon". After reading some peculiar reviews about this hotel on Turpravda, they refused. They began to search further. And here we accidentally stumbled upon a description of a new hotel in Nea Kalikratia - Aegean Blue Hotel. Somehow we immediately decided - we go there. And they weren't wrong.
Nea Kalikratia, a small seaside town, just 25 km from Thessaloniki Airport. The hotel stands on the seashore, commissioned only in June 2010. The stardom will be 4 *, but the first year they always give less, then they increase it. Between the hotel and the sea there is a small road with light one-way traffic. The beach is wide by local standards, umbrellas and sunbeds are free with the purchase of a drink on the beach. You can take a bottle of mineral water and lie on a sunbed all day, we didn’t take it, because the beach is sandy, even, it’s convenient to lie on a towel or bedspread.
Let's go back to the hotel.

The interior is in a calm high-tech style, wood-tile-metal, there are no dusty carpets and smelly plastic, even chairs on the balconies are wooden wicker. Three floors with two Otis elevators. The rooms are spacious, most with sea views, a few side rooms look directly at the neighboring house, probably not very convenient there, I don’t know. The room has a free air conditioner (in most Greek "three rubles" for it an additional charge of 7e / day), a free safe with an electronic lock (again, more often it is paid), a refrigerator, a TV - an LCD panel with two hundred channels (many Russian programs), in the shower - slippers and shower caps, soap, shampoo, hair dryer, a window from the shower to the room with blinds, very original. Towels are changed every other day, bedding once a week. The hotel has a swimming pool under the roof, no one went to the sea is better.
Internet. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and even on the beach.
I was told about this on the pages of "Turpravda" by a Ukrainian friend of Vojager, who had visited this hotel a month earlier, and we were already traveling with a laptop. In the morning and in the evening the Internet is slow, dull, it is inconvenient to talk on Skype, but it is normal to use mail. In the evening and in the siesta, when the Greeks are sleeping, the Internet is good. We take the code at the reception, which contains the username and password, enter it into the computer - and go ahead. After 2 hours it will turn off, we take a new code - and another 2 hours. Then we got used to it and took several codes at once for the whole day, still for free.
Nutrition. Breakfast is the usual - scrambled eggs - pasta / pasta with cheese - bacon - cheese - ham - feta - olives - croissants - yogurts - peaches - tea - coffee - juice - milk. Hearty and tasty. We did not take dinner, but those who did responded well. We dined in the seaside taverns and restaurants of Kalikratia. Again, on the advice of friends from Turpravda, we found a wonderful Italian restaurant Mambo, offering different types of pasta and pizza and huge salads.

For two with wine 20.25 euros, you need to take one salad and two hot ones, or one pizza of 6 slices and 2 salads. Wine in all restaurants is 3 euros per half liter, it is dry, we did not take another. Mambo is located on the main square of Kalikratia, the name can be seen from everywhere. Two more good, already fish restaurants - on the embankment from the main square in the direction opposite to the hotel, 50-60 meters. One has stylized swans at the entrance, and a pirate (doll) sits at the next one. Delicious Greek fish and seafood dishes - octopus, cuttlefish, squid. There you can also order a pork chop on the coals, tasty treats. Well, at the hotel itself, if you walk from it along the embankment towards the pier, there is a good Romios tavern, classic Greek dishes. We did not eat fast food, but it is there, and inexpensive.
Shopping. There are many fur coat shops in Kalikratia, all sellers speak Russian. You can go to Kastoria for a fur coat, but usually in Kalikratia you can buy even cheaper and better, and here's why.
When traveling on a fur coat tour to Kastoria, it is immediately clear that the guide or group leader is at the same time with the sellers and owners of the salons, and this is not particularly hidden. There is not much time to choose and bargain, and sellers do not particularly discount prices. In Kalikratia, on the contrary, you can wander through these salons every evening, choosing and bargaining without fuss: if you didn’t bargain today, I’ll come tomorrow, or I’ll go to another salon. All our neighbors bought what they wanted, we were no exception.
In grocery stores, delicious Turkish delight, various halva and Greek honey in tins. Alcohol - anise vodka "Uzo" (smells like medicine, pectussin) and cognac "Metaxa", very decent. On the outskirts of each town there are shops of the German Lidl chain with inexpensive products.
Animation. Absent as such in principle. This pleases lovers of a relaxing holiday, no one bothers.
Young people in Kalikratia will be bored, there is no entertainment, only under the windows of the hotel of a dubious reputation, the "Freedom" tavern with some strange dumb half-naked visitors, it is noisy from Friday to Sunday, the Greeks light it up. The Greeks also have a special chic to ride in a car with open windows and a giant subwoofer turned on at full power with Greek rap. And if a Greek sees a friend from the car, he will beep loudly. Europeans with oriental temperament.

Car rental. If you get tired of lying on the beach and walking around fur salons, take a car and go. We took a Matiz with automatic transmission and air conditioning for 4 days at 45 e / day. A stylish girl from Mouzenidis drove a car from Thessaloniki directly to the hotel. It’s even easier to return: on the 4th day, late in the evening, I threw the key to the car at the reception, in the morning I looked from the balcony - there was no car, the girl drove it to someone next.
We traveled around the "fingers" of the Chalkidiki peninsula, experienced delight from the cliffs in the transparent bays of Kassandra and from the endless snow-white beaches of Sithonia. It's easy to drive, you just need to take a navigator from home, draws and speaks well. It is difficult to follow road signs, local gopniks draw their "graffiti" on them, all signs and even signs are painted. The roads are narrow, but smooth, without potholes. On the road we took milk (1e/liter) and delicious Greek pastries.
There are many beautiful monasteries and churches on the peninsula of Chalkidiki, they are freely allowed everywhere, only in the siesta - from 14 to 18 hours - you can’t get anywhere, all Greeks sleep, a national custom.
By the end of September, the weather became similar to autumn: during the day it is still very warm, but in the evening you need to wear a jacket.
In Kalikratia, everyone also praised the Aqua Mare hotel very much, it is generally 2 *, but everyone speaks of it very, very well.
We liked Kalikratia.
It is a good relaxing holiday for older people and for families with small children.
