Also, I am considering the undisputed leader of this region of Sri Lanka, Hikka Tranz By Cinnamon (ex.Chaaya Tranz), but it is not yet clear if there are rooms available. And I’m thinking whether it’s worth overpaying (the price is higher by 300 USD minimum). Many thanks for your help!

The selection criterion is the beach, the ability to swim, a good beach, more or less normal hotel rooms and food, developed infrastructure nearby.

Hikkaduwa Beach - the rooms are not new, but everything is quite normal, very close to the ocean, right from the hotel down to the water, you can see the ocean from the rooms. We chose it for the sake of this and did not regret a single minute, we still remember) The breakfasts are delicious, the staff is good. There is a small fenced area with decking and sun loungers by the pool. To the left of the hotel is a wide strip of beach where you can sit on the sand.
Coral Sands Hotel - the hotel itself is not bad, and the location too. But minus - right next to it is a boat station, a strong smell of gasoline.
Hotel Lanka Super Corals - unfortunately I don't remember about it, but it seems to be only 2 stars.
China trans is the most expensive hotel, it alone has 4 stars in Hikkaduwa. large territory, the rooms say good. but right in front of it there is a very bad entrance to the ocean - rocky and rocky, you still have to go to the side to swim. And from the hotel building to the ocean you have to walk. Turtles hang around him)

Hotel Lanka Super Corals - we lived in it. For 2 stars - excellent, sea view, swimming pool, protected area, normal food. We went swimming closer to the Coral Sands Hotel, where the fish and the sea are calm. Walk in the other direction. Everything is nearby and nothing to overpay. But you need to understand that this is an economical option.

Good afternoon! We were in 2013 in Lanka supercorals. The story is here http://www.turpravda.ua/lk/hikkaduva/blog-95576.html
if you manage to open it, now there is some kind of glitch on the site (or it's just me). In short - we really liked it, despite the fact that the hotel is 2+. Our room had both a plasma and a kettle with a tea set and a large balcony with a side view of the ocean and new plumbing. The hotel does not have a beach as such, the ocean starts right behind the hotel's fence, but there are sun loungers by the pool on site. But there is a reef where you can see fish and even an octopus (not Egypt, but still).
Near Hikkaduwa Beach, in my opinion, the best sea in Hikkaduwa, there is a good reef, but the hotel is the most extreme to the fishing port.
The chai trance is undoubtedly the best of all and there is a lagoon. You can swim in any weather. However, after heavy rains, it (the lagoon) turns into a swamp). But the giant turtles are the bomb!
Basically, everything is close by. You can choose the cheapest Lanka supercorals, and go to the beach even to the right, even to the left.

Hello. I've been to Coral Sands, I recommend it. We have renovated the rooms and good food, close to the reef with fish and the beach.

I fully support Irene, everything is close, choose what suits you for the price, we were twice in Chai, which we liked in September (when the rainy season), the presence of dehumidifiers in the rooms, all rooms overlook the ocean and you can swim in the off season only at Chaya, but you can walk along the coast from any hotel.

Last year we spent an unforgettable vacation in Chaya, trans-waves were everywhere in November and the main criterion was the presence of a reef that extinguishes them and, unlike other vacationers, whom we collected on the return transfer to the airport and talked, normally swam. The food is excellent, I regretted that I did not take dinner (we are used to the fact that in such countries it makes no sense to eat at the hotel, but the food is excellent in Chaya trans). A definite plus is the huge turtles. My son was just delighted with them. The rooms are excellent, there are dehumidifiers and no humidity in the rooms. Well, in general, I liked the hotel. We often watched wedding ceremonies, which only added color to our holiday. We are not enthusiastic about Sri Lanka itself, but thanks to the right choice of the hotel, we don’t even remember some negative points (this does not apply to the hotel).

If you don’t overpay and don’t go far to swim, then Coral Sands Hotel, it’s good or Hikkaduwa Beach, but I wouldn’t recommend Lanka, only if you don’t have enough money (the rooms are very tired, air conditioners work only in less than half of the rooms, food is already very modest).
Citrus Hikkaduwa 4 * can also be seen, discos, etc., but for swimming you will have to walk 250 meters to Chaaya trance in the sandy lagoon.

Good afternoon! We recommend you Coral Sands Hotel, the food is good, the infrastructure is developed.

Valievat, Hikkaduwa Beach!! Definitely. I’ll explain why, the first one is simply not closer to the ocean). You sit on the terrace. Eat and contemplate the ocean, go to the beach for a minute! The beach is large, the lagoon is the only one in the area where there are fish and turtles .. and a calm ocean without waves! The hotel itself is good rooms in general, delicious food. And proximity to everything, go left, you will find a stop and you will find a market, to the right, a bank and a supermarket. There is my review, read, ask questions, than I can, I will help.

At the expense of the price of Chaya trans and Hikkaduwa Beach, I now looked and, frankly, the difference is scanty - Tea for 8 days for two is 38781 UAH, and Beach for 7 days for two is 34400 UAH .. the flight is included in both options. I didn’t specify whether breakfast was included in this price, and I didn’t set dates, those are the prices for the next dates, but if I chose between these two hotels with such a difference in cost, then Chaya Trans would definitely win. Well, in general, of course, you need to understand what exactly you need - if a purely beach holiday is rare, then of course the quality of the hotel is in the first place, and if you are going to see the country, then what exactly to see it, then these are excursions for several days, maybe the road to the main attractions if you have already arrived at the hotel takes hours and it is rational to take an excursion for 3-4-5 days. And then, of course, the hotel is not so important and it makes no sense to overpay. Friends went to see the country right from the airport, it was the right decision. We had a child and we did not dare to do it.

lana_181, you contradict yourself! The only lagoon without waves in Hikkaduwa is right next to the Chaaya Trans hotel with turtles!!! And staying in Chaaya, we perfectly used the sunbeds in the shade right next to the ocean, 10 steps away, and the sellers did not bother, the police did not let them into the hotel. The walk from the Hikkaduwa beach hotel is really less than a minute, but you only have to sunbathe right on the sand and the sellers will stick with their rags.
And there are a lot of shops, banks and supermarkets and liquor stores in Hikkaduwa itself, and there are also many temples within walking distance.
I am attaching a photo of the lagoon itself, photographed from the Chaaya Hotel (Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon) towards the Coral Sands Hotel, Bansei by Hotel J (formerly Coral Rock by Amaya) and further on Hikkaduwa Beach with a mass of boats more than 100 sometimes.
Absolutely all THESE hotels are on the first line of the ocean.

And this is the view towards the hotel Hikkaduwa Beach
аватар lana_181
nadin65, why on earth am I contradicting myself ???))) No, what you showed in the photo is not a lagoon, there are all boats and boats on the pier, with a wonderful smell of gasoline and solarium, and yes, there those who live in China swim .. because the hotel does not have its own edge of the beach! And turtles are everywhere) It's just that near Chai they sail in the morning and in the evening, and in the lagoon near Hikkaduwa they swim in the ocean. so for the sake of turtles it is worth living in China, in which there are terrible rooms, air conditioners do not work, the territory is not fenced and there is no beach ??
аватар lana_181
nadin65 I can send a photo to you personally, for comparison, or to someone who needs it. Otherwise, only one photo is added to the message.

I'll put in my five cents :))) Near the CHAI there is a large and deep lagoon, on the left if the season is!! (in March) we swam with turtles and fish, but there are stones, some live corals and hedgehogs. in the middle you can just swim, there is another lagoon behind the boats, it is not so deep there is live coral, there are a lot of fish there, the guys opened shops for renting masks and snorkels, last September the area where you can swim was surrounded by buoys, but if it is stormy. you can’t swim there, it throws you on stones. out of 7 days in September! every day we swam near Chai and once. for boats. Take a rental,! As for the fact that the territory in Chai is not fenced, it’s at first glance, it’s like on a hill, the territory is clearly separated around the perimeter and there are guards everywhere, we left valuables and went to swim, I didn’t need air conditioning anymore, but air dryer and in TEA he was.

I liked the rooms in Chaya, especially the balcony with a sofa, the location is also not on the highway itself. When we stayed the second time, we were almost carried in our arms - wine and fruit from the hotel, bathrobes, slippers, an ironing board with an iron, a discount in the spa. Choose a hotel according to your budget, swim on all the beaches. Enjoy your holiday in Lanka!
аватар moy_contakt
I disagree about the "horrible numbers" in Chai!!! The rooms are excellent and I have something to compare. Air conditioners and dehumidifiers worked everywhere and everywhere (during our stay we talked with many (as I read reviews about dampness on the first floors) and everything was fine for everyone, everything worked, it was clean, comfortable. Excellent protected area. Responsive staff. Also me I was interested in the issue of cheaper housing and we went around several options where housing was rented outside the hotel and I will say that such conditions would definitely not suit me.
