Guys, I found a good housing option, but I ask those who know, please comment!
Guys, I hope for your hint, because I want to relax on a budget and not get into trouble because of the choice of housing!
We want to go to Hikkaduwa and immediately looked at the Hikka Trans and Citrus hotels. But in reality, the reviews show that the prices are too high, plus we want to go on excursions. We will take excursions from the hotel, we can’t immediately after the flight, as it will be hard. So it's a pity to pay that kind of money for a hotel and go on excursions.
We found such a good motel Tamara Motels with very good reviews.
But there is one BUT:
1. Near the railway and trains rumble at night as well.
2. I'm afraid of a few guest houses, because they write about theft and that they climb into people's windows at night when they sleep.
3. There are rooms with a kitchen, but is it really possible to cook on your own in Sri Lanka if it is so hot and humid?
Please give advice, is it worth it? The price is reasonable, and it's not so pitiful to go on excursions for 3 days.

1. We had a guest house next to the railway. Impressions, of course, not sooo. The roar is terrible, just terrifying, but, however, trains run there infrequently, the first train is something around 6 in the morning (this is in Bentota, so in Hikkaduwa with a difference of about 45 minutes). The second time, I would really think about whether to take housing right under the railway.
2. We had no problems, no one climbed to us.
3. to cook or not - it's up to you to decide whether you want to bother, regardless of the heat, country and resort (there is no heat in the room. Conder there)

Thanks! One opinion already :)

1. Yes, railway tracks run along the entire coast, so most hotels and guest houses are located not far from the coast near the railway. Yes, trains do not run often, not at night, but they can wake you up in the morning.
2. With theft, everything is quite calm, at least in Bentota, in Hikkaduwa it is worse, especially by the new year. You shouldn't worry too much, but it's important to be careful: close windows/doors when you leave the room, don't leave things unattended, put valuables in the safe - in general, like everywhere else :)
3. It is difficult to answer unambiguously, a lot depends on what you cook and eat. But it is important to understand that there are not many stores in the usual "supermarket" format for us, most likely you will need to go to the store by tuk-tuk every time, and besides, the choice of products is quite different from what we are used to. And of course, vacation time that will be spent on trips to the store, cooking, washing dishes ...

Better than Kogalla or Unawatuna, Hikkaduwa is overrated because there are a lot of tourists from the West... In SHL for a dollar you can ride a motorcycle taxi (tuk-tuk) up to 10km...

Why is Kogalla better?
Are there supermarkets?
Is it possible to swim without waves, is there a lagoon?

Yes, we chose from the consideration that Hikkaduwa has a lagoon and turtles and also a beach with fish. There is a supermarket nearby. Everything seems to be cool, but the railway tracks are embarrassing!

We lived in Hikka Trans about 6 years ago and in Citrus at a discount in the off-season a couple of years ago, the price tag is definitely too high, if you are not afraid to walk, I would consider housing on Narigama, there are waves and you will have to walk a kilometer and a half to the lagoon , but you can live almost on the first line quite inexpensively.

Regarding the theft - 4 times were in Hikkaduwa, three times in Uppuweli in Kandy, Mirissa, Passikud, Kataragama, not in guesthouses, but the hotels were very different, the safe was not everywhere, whether they liked it or not is another question, but we have never been stolen

Here is the number of a cool guide who tells and shows everything for a very modest tip, he will help you choose a super villa for $ 25 per day, the beaches are so without waves, well done. Viber anytime

When we walked along the streets of Hikkaduwa next to the beach street, we took a closer look at the small hotels surrounded by the greenery of palm trees, and the pool
Hotel Thai Lanka and Hotel Finlanka,
Or on the 1st line near Hikka Trans and Lanka Supercolals guest house Curry Bowl Restaurant & Turtles Rest

There is hot water and air conditioning.
There is a shared kitchen, but you can use it for a fee. Not expensive

We lived in Hikka next to the railway. Something I don’t remember that she strained us. Cooking yourself and eating in a cafe - the savings are sooo significant. We didn't have much time for this. Of course, we did not cook borscht, and not pasties. Here the question is different. I'm not even considering Lanka this year. With all my indifference. There are some serious things going on there. When we flew out of there in November, the entrance to the airport was absolutely free. It already stressed me out. The flight was late at night, and we sat at the airport for a very long time, waiting for check-in. Attention was attracted by some type, of an absolutely homeless look with some kind of box. He dragged her around. I was uncomfortable. For some reason, they were greatly let down with security. Here is the result :(((
