I would not recommend taking breakfast only. Ceylon food is specific, not for everyone, and it is far from certain that a child can eat it. And European food will cost more than if you immediately take full board.

It all depends on the hotel. If the hotel is normal, then it makes sense to take dinner. But my son and I (and he is not only picky, but there are also foods that he does not absorb) and we ate well. There were excellent cream soups, fish in any variant (how to order), rice also in different variations. I generally keep quiet about fruits. The son began to eat pineapple in Sri Lanka, before that he did not want to anywhere, categorically. Well, the fish is our everything. therefore, if your child eats fish, rice, then you will have something to feed the child. Our problem is that our son eats only fish and seafood (we joke that he was born in the wrong country) and meat is not digested from birth. We have never had any problems with food either in India or in Sri Lanka. Spices ... yes, but for us they are preparing a light version. You say that it would not be spicy and at least spices and everything will be ok. And at the expense of food, read the reviews, because there are hotels where it definitely makes no sense to pay extra for dinner. I can't say for the money as it depends on a lot of factors.

Choose a hotel near which there is infrastructure, so as not to go for lunch and dinner by tuk tuk. If you take a fish (and it goes without a price from them, then they bring it to you and say this is how much it costs that much. And fix this moment on paper and take pictures !! We had that we discussed this cost, they bring the bill with the corrected number, of course in a big way ... we didn’t go to this institution more naturally. Also, keep in mind that 10% is added to the bill (not everywhere, but mostly).

We lived in the village of Kogalla. The average check for dinner at a fine restaurant for 4 adults was $20.

You look at the infrastructure around the hotel. There are local eateries with dubious sanitation. And specific food. And still need to sit and wait. And at the hotel he came, chose, ate. Didn't like it - took another. Plenty of time, waiters in white.)))))

logvinova, here I do not agree with you. If you put the question of unsanitary conditions in this way, then it makes no sense to travel to such countries at all. Having visited India (Goa) for the first time, I was shocked by their necks (cafes on the shore), canopies knocked together from boards, it’s better not to go into the kitchen at all, because then you can’t wait for your appetite :) but there has never been poisoning, TC everything is exceptionally fresh and preparing right now. Things are a little better in Sri Lanka. I can say the same about Thailand and other similar countries. You can find pretentious establishments, but then why go to such countries ...
аватар ollennka
I go to unsanitary countries for natural beauties and historical monuments. And I'm not going to feel like an inferior tourist just because I don't eat their national food cooked in unsanitary conditions.)))
Everyone has their own degree of disgust, it can not be redone.
аватар logvinova
my_contact - of course. But these countries are good not only for food. And you write about yourself, and I explain to the person how, from my point of view, the situation is. For me personally, finding where, what and at what price to eat three times a day is just a ruined vacation.

We definitely go to the exotic for beauty, nature, history, etc., all this is very interesting, but the local cuisine is also very important for me. I also go for the freshest seafood (in the morning, fishermen bring only caught seafood, I choose what I liked and they cooked it right there, it's in India). In this regard, I liked Sri Lanka less, the choice was poorer at times. But nevertheless, 2-3 types of fish were always offered in local establishments, but shrimp, crabs and other living creatures were almost everywhere. Yes, for the first two days we tried food in different establishments, where it’s better, where it’s worse, but to say that these searches we were strained .. well, no, on the contrary, this is a great opportunity to get to know the local food better. Prices are plus or minus the same everywhere (within the habitat), they were looking only for delicious cooking and good service (it was limping in places). Such things should be treated more simply, this is not ALL Clusive, it is much more interesting and tastier, you organize your own vacation.

This "economy" always goes sideways, especially in such exotic countries (India, Sri Lanka ..). There you have to eat very carefully, especially with a child. Hotel - food in the hotel, it's quite normal. Eating out is risky...it's extreme.
аватар moy_contakt
If you look at it this way, then stomach troubles can happen in any country, and even in the most respectable and not cheap hotel, unfortunately.
аватар ollennka
But for some reason, it happens more often in all sorts of Vietnam, India and Sri Lanka)))).
аватар moy_contakt
ollennka I have never had problems in these countries, but in Egypt they got hurt and not sickly. And in a Turkish hotel they ended up in the hospital with their son .... their medicine is at the level, the child was quickly put on his feet, but .... and this hotel is one of the best on the coast of Alanya ... they didn’t take the youngest with them to exotic for long flights, transfers, and my son from the age of 7 is with us everywhere and everywhere (now he is already 13)
аватар ollennka
In, Egypt is still from the same unsanitary series. In Turkey, on average, sanitary conditions in hotels and restaurants are better.
The most (pah-pah) was never poisoned when traveling, but my fellow travelers were poisoned twice: in Malaysia and Vietnam.
аватар ollennka
By the way, I will not go to India even despite the million beautiful photos of the Taj Mahal and Aurangabad. Because I'm afraid of shock))).
аватар moy_contakt
India is different. There is a very civilized part and it is called GOA, there is also something to see there. There, the shock can happen more in the part to eat (where they cook and where they offer to taste the cooked), but as for the global shock, it is undoubtedly Varanassi, and in other cities it’s not much better .. what is happening on the streets of the proud (how they live people, this poverty around, dirt, etc. ... but this also needs to be seen at least once, believe me, in comparison with what you see, you begin to evaluate your life differently, new plans for the future appear, self-awareness and you begin to think that it’s good that I’m not here was born (they didn’t take children with them.) But in general, for a civilized and comfortable stay, it’s enough to choose the state of GOA for deployment, a decent hotel and believe me, I’ve never experienced such relaxation anywhere else. where they cook fish or something ... I return there again and again and it is 100 times better than Sri Lanka with Thailand. But this is for me and my husband.

Yes, I will dare somehow to India ... Sooner or later, curiosity will overcome. Purely vegetable rest, I do not really like it.

We took breakfast, lunch is not important for us. In the evening, locals (you will be found) brought shrimp 2 portions of 0.5 kg in sauce and baked fish in palm branches on a tray - 12-15 dollars. We were two adults. They ate to the bone. A week later, they really wanted borscht, but alas, there is no such thing. But you can also dine in local cafes. The country is poor, prices are democratic. Do not forget that in the cafe you will add 10% service charge to the cost.
аватар ollennka
By the way, yes, in Sri Lanka, everywhere in addition to the amount on the menu, tax and service charge were put on the bill. In total, about 20-25% plus came out.
аватар sugak70
in my opinion 10%, I have not seen another there
аватар ollennka
10 percent tax and 10-15% tips. Tipping was sometimes not included, but there was always a tax. I went in 2016, if anything, maybe that has changed in three years.
аватар moy_contakt
In hotels and tax and 10%, in cafes only 10%. Perhaps the amount of the tax was not announced to us, but the price was immediately given, but the tax officially appeared only on the invoice that was issued at the hotel, so it was generally unprofitable to eat or drink there in addition to what was included in the package.
аватар ollennka
I don’t know, both in restaurants and in hotels they cheated both the tax and the tip at once. And in the menu it was always written in small print at the bottom that the tax and tip would be added on top.
аватар moy_contakt
In our cafe outside the hotel, the figure of 10% exclusively figured, but there was a cafe further away where the prices were generally excellent and they didn’t even take 10%. But at the hotel we had a great meal, and when we saw the bill, to be honest, they freaked out ...... maybe with all the taxes and tips it turned out well more expensive ... we didn’t take anything else on the territory of the hotel.
аватар dii34
Everything at our hotel was very expensive. Ate near the hotel. Indeed, 10% was added to the bill. As for the children, we flew to Thailand with a one-year-old child. Follow the minimum hygiene standards and everything will be fine. Take the child soups, well-done, or stewed. Wipe cutlery with wet wipes and, most importantly, wash your hands with soap)))) Have a nice trip!

Rested in Ambalangoda, a small town in the southwest of Sri Lanka. We only included breakfasts, European ones (hot dish: scrambled eggs with vegetables, scrambled eggs with sausages, oatmeal, etc.), to this tea and coffee, coffee is EVERYWHERE disgusting, and tea, of course, is super))), plus fruit salad and fresh juice). We dined and dined in different places, the prices are about the same everywhere, dinner for three is a maximum of $ 20, the portions are large. For lunch, we ate only soup, in the very heat we somehow didn’t feel like it, portion 1 - $ 1.5, we still remember shrimp soup with coconut milk ... We didn’t like the meat and chicken there at all, the locals don’t eat it and They don’t know how to cook (. Fish and seafood are amazing. We bought freshly caught fish and shrimp at the fish market a couple of times early in the morning (I was nearby), fishermen sell the night catch from 6 in the morning, and gave it to cook, many restaurants provide this service, our hotel too, costs up to $ 3 for cooking 1 kg. Cheap and convenient! Nobody got poisoned, everything from the sea is very fresh and tasty)))
