I arrived in Mexico on June 18.2011. The flight was very long, waiting at the airport even longer. To be honest, I'm even afraid to calculate how much time I spent on the road, changing 4 planes, and "overnight" at the Moscow airport.

As tedious as the flight was, so happy was the arrival. I was greeted by palm trees and the humid, very warm climate of Cancun.

At the border, I pretended to be a tourist, knowing that I didn’t even have a return ticket, and, in fact, I didn’t want to return. The customs officers stamped my migration form with permission to stay in the country for 6 months.

From Cancun to Mexico City, to a vast metropolis that had mesmerized me before I even landed. The night capital from the plane is an amazing sight.

Speaking of airplanes...I flew with Lufthansa, Condor and Volyaris. A few words about each.

Lufthansa. Excellent service, delicious breakfast, warm blanket on every seat.

And punctuality.

Condor. Quite a cheap airline (you can find Moscow-Cancun tickets for $400) But: unbearable cold in the absence of a blanket. The staff ignores English, preferring to answer in German. Tasteless food, and even the tea is somehow wrong.

Volyaris. Again, quite a cheap airline. Excellent air in the cabin (not hot and not cold). True, they were fed with chips and other snacks (however, the flight was short).

Well, my first impressions, surprises and delights:

* Palm trees! I still can't stop admiring. A symbol of rest and summer for a Russian person.

* Colored houses

* Unusual fruits and vegetables (the first days I tried to learn all the names: hitomate, chayote, tuna, etc. )

* Eateries around every corner: tortas, tamales, tacos, quesadillas, refreshments and ice cream.

Chefs cook right on the street, and people eat right on the street, often standing up.

* Locals add chili or spicy chili salsa to almost every meal! (even chili lozenges and fresh chili fruit! )

* Religiosity of Mexicans. In the order of things to meet a Mexican in the subway with the figure of some saint in his hands. Once I even saw a figure the size of my height! And it was on the bus! ! !

* Bakeries. The most popular bakery chains are Esperanza, El Globo. At the bakery, you pick up a tray and special tongs, and off you go - that sweet, fragrant way of Mexican bakeries. The range is amazing. On the first day, I wanted to try everything, everything, everything. But, to be honest, I didn’t really like Mexican buns and cakes. Some even seemed too, too sweet.

I really felt that I was in Mexico City when I saw the Angel of Independence. Before that, in Russia, every day I was looking for new photos of this symbol of Mexico, dreaming that one day I would be there.

The next significant event was a visit to the Frida Museum. This is a huge house with a garden where Frida and her husband, the famous artist Diego Rivera, lived. I am not a fan of their work, but the atmosphere of the house shocked me to the core. In the same house there is a room where Trotsky lived for a long time. Honestly, I expected to see more of Frida's paintings, but they are probably all hidden in the Museum of Fine Arts (Bellas Artes).

This concludes my report. In the next one, I will write about the celebration of Independence Day in Mexico City (September 16).
