At the foot of one of Vienna's old bastions is the Palais Erzherzog Albrecht or Albertina, which houses a unique collection of graphics, as well as watercolors, engravings, drawings and photographs from the Middle Ages to the present. Here you will find a fairly complete collection of prints and drawings by Albrecht Dü rer. In 1795, Archduke Albrecht bought the current palace, which was moved to the Art Collection. According to the new purpose, the palace building was rebuilt. And in 1822 the collection became available to citizens.
On the terrace near the palace there is an equestrian monument of the last great Habsburg general, Archduke Albrecht, who won the Battle of Custozza in 1866 - the work of Caspar von Zumbusch (1899). The author of the pedestal composition is the architect Carl Koenig. The statue can be seen in detail if you climb the escalator of Albertina.
At the foot, in the niche of the terrace - neo-baroque fountain.
The Albrecht Fountain (or Allegory of the Danube Fountain) was built in 1899 and was damaged by bombing during the war. Only the central part of the building has survived. The composition depicts the god of rivers - Danubius, the protector of Windobona. The creator of the fountain - Moritz von Lehr; the author of the sculptural group is Johann Meiksner.
