Channel Devil

Czech republic, Prague
One of the most picturesque places in the Czech capital. It is a branch of the Vltava River. The 740-meter-long canal was artificially created in the Middle Ages and separates the island of Kampa and the Lesser Town area in the historical center of Prague. Tourists have nicknamed the canal the "Prague Venice": here, as in the famous Italian city, houses are built on the shore, and the walls go straight into the water. The origin of the name of the channel is associated with a number of legends. One of them says that once a woman with a bad temper lived on the island, who managed to quarrel among themselves many residents. For this she was nicknamed the Devil. At the same time got the river. Previously, there were many mills along the canal, only the wheel of one of them, built in the 16th century, has survived to this day.

The devil in Prague separated a small part of the historical center and created a special atmosphere in this area. Who is the Devil who allows himself to rule in the heart of the Czech capital? This is the name of a small river that branches off from the Vltava and flows into it. Making an independent path about 900 meters long, the Devil washes the small green island of Kampa. It's better to call the devil a channel. There are many versions of the name of this water arm, but all agree that the riverbed is man-made, not natural.
