Tuscan palace

Czech republic, Prague
The building in the monumental Roman Baroque style is located in the center of Prague, on Hradcany Square. Construction began in 1689. The customer of the project was Count Michael Oswald of Thun-Hohenstein, who had disagreements with his neighbors: the new palace would cover the facades of their buildings. The emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Leopold I himself had to intervene in the conflict, who took the side of the count. However, Thun-Hohenstein did not live to see the completion of the work, and in 1718 the unfinished building was acquired by Anna Maria Francisca, Duchess of Tuscany, under whom the palace received not only its present appearance, but also its name. The Tuscan palace has a rectangular shape with two towers and consists of four wings. For a century (1803-1918) the Habsburgs owned the palace until it was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic (then - Czechoslovakia). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic is located here today. In the late 1990s, the building was reconstructed.

Built in the style of the monumental Roman Baroque by architects J. B. Mate and J. Canevalle in 1689-1691, the palace closed with its foundation houses belonging to the burghers and nobles. Count Michal Oswald Thun-Hohenstein - the first owner of the palace - housed a library here, as well as valuable collections. After the sale of the palace in 1718, the Duchess Maria Anna of Tuscany became its owner. The Tuscan Palace is a representative building with four wings, a symmetrical facade and two towers.
