Round Tower

Rundetärn, The Round Tower
Denmark, Copenhagen
The round tower was built by order of King Christian IV in 1637-1642. The tower is the first of three elements that form the "Trinitatis Complex", which consisted of an astronomical observatory, a student church and a university library. The height of the Round Tower is about 35 meters; its observation deck offers a beautiful view of the old Latin Quarter of Copenhagen. The observatory is one of the oldest in Europe. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the outstanding astronomers Ole Römer and Peder Horrebow worked here.

The Round Tower is the most popular observation deck in Copenhagen. From its roof, Sweden and the Ø resund Bridge connecting both countries are perfectly visible. I liked that there are no steps in the tower, the climb is carried out along a wide spiral corridor, which is a bit like climbing Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The corridor is so spacious and wide that the Russian Tsar Peter I galloped along it on a horse, which immortalized himself in the annals of the history of Copenhagen. By the way, after Peter the Great, people used cars here, but cars still have not overshadowed the glory of Peter Alekseevich .
