Monastery of Pedralbes

Monestir de Pedralbes, Monastery of Pedralbe
Spain, Barcelona
The Monastery of Pedralbes was founded by King James II the Just for his wife in 1326. The queen gave the monastery a number of privileges, including a separate guard to protect it in case of danger. The monastery has preserved a cell on which Ferré Basso worked. The frescoes decorating the cell are the only work of his that has survived to this day. In 1991 the monastery was declared a national monument.

The monastery was founded by Queen Elisenda de Moncada y Luna, who, after the death of her husband, spent the rest of her life here - 37 years, leading the Order of St. Clara. Address: Baixada del Monestir, 9. Entrance 5 euros. The courtyard of the monastery has three floors, in the center there is a small garden with a fountain. To the right of the entrance is a cell, better known as the Chapel of St. Michael (Сapella de Sant Miquel). It is painted almost from the floor to the ceiling in 1343 by Ferrer Bassa.
