New Square

Placa Nova, Placa Nova
Spain, Barcelona
The new square is located in the Gothic Quarter. Despite the name, this is the oldest square in Barcelona. Its history begins in 1355, when by the decision of the city council the place outside the city gates was converted into a square. It is dominated by two Romanesque towers from the 12th century. Also located here is the Bishop's Palace and sculpture "Barsino". Nowadays, every Thursday an antique market is held on New Square.

The beginning of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona is the New Square (Plaç a Nova), which was formed in the 14th century. What is there to pay attention to? - The facade of the building of the College of Architects - it was painted by Pablo Picasso in his characteristic style; - the remains of an ancient Roman aqueduct; - Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, which, of course, is the main dominant of the square; - House of Archdeacon Louis Desplat - be sure to look into the courtyard; - a visual sculpture by the artist Joan Brossa, forming the word Barcino.
