photography festival

Les Rencontres d'Arles, "Meetings in Arles"
France, Arles
The photography festival has been held in Arles every year since 1970. It was founded by photographer Lucien Clergue, writer Michel Tournier and historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette. This is one of the leading photography festivals in the world, where the premieres of photographic projects take place. It also awards awards in several categories. Another event of the festival is the so-called "night of the year" - the projection of photos from the media and news agencies on large screens installed in the city.

Every year, during the summer, Arles hosts the world's oldest photography festival, Rencontres d'Arles (Meetings in Arles). It is recognized as one of the world's leading festivals dedicated exclusively to photography. This status was not acquired by chance - it was this festival that played an important role in recognizing photography as an art form. It was founded in 1970 by the famous French photographer Lucien Clergue, writer Tournier and historian Jean-Maurice Rouquet. Almost the entire free space of the city has been devoted to holding exhibitions.
