On the Place de la Republique there is an obelisk dating from the 4th century. Previously, it towered in the middle of the Roman Circus, but with the destruction of the Circus, it fell, split, went underground and was found only in 1389. In the 17th century, it was transported and installed in the center of the main city square, opposite the newly rebuilt City Hall, in honor of the Sun King Louis, which was all the more logical, since the obelisk is an ancient symbol of the Sun. In 1866, the architect Jacques Peytre brought water to the plinth, so that the obelisk turned out to be towering in the middle of a small fountain.→
