On one of the beautiful Parisian squares, Place des Vosges, 6, on the second floor of an old mansion, there is an apartment-museum of Victor Hugo. It was opened on the centenary of the birth of Victor Hugo in his former apartment. His friend and executor Paul Meurice bought the mansion and donated books, manuscripts, drawings, personal belongings of the writer, which became the basis of the museum composition. The heavy-framed rooms are hung with paintings by masters, which depict members of his family, famous people and friends of the family, as well as historical moments from various periods. Mirrors in ornate gilded frames hang from the walls. There is an interesting room, fully furnished with Chinese household items and art. In this room, you can appreciate the design talent of the writer. The plate racks were designed by Victor Hugo himself, painting and finishing by his friend.
Thanks to the writer's grandchildren, the interior decoration and furniture of the room where the writer spent his last years of life has been preserved. The bed on which he slept in the last years and even hours of his life has been preserved. The room has been completely restored and conveys the atmosphere of the room of that time.
Hugo's best novels were written in this apartment. Many famous people came here: Prosper Merimee, Honore de Balzac, Gioacchino Rossini, Alexandre Dumas, Franz Liszt. From this apartment, the writer married Leopoldina, his beloved daughter.
Entrance to the museum is free, the location is very convenient for visiting. After visiting the museum, you can go to the cafe downstairs with tables in a cozy courtyard or take a walk on the always crowded Place des Vosges.
