The compact seaside town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer grew at one time around the Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Mer (L'é glise de Notre Dame-de-la-Mer). The building itself was built in the Romanesque style. In the main room of the temple there is a small colorful sculpture of two Marys in a boat with numerous thank-you tablets around the perimeter.

Below, in the crypt, are the relics of St. Sarah and decorated with ribbons, an elegant statue of Sarah herself. There are also a bunch of thank-you tablets, notes and other evidence of the numerous cures bestowed by the Saint.

The upper chapel of the church is open to the public and serves as an observation deck for those wishing to see the surroundings from a bird's eye view. Keep in mind, for a good view, you will need to climb onto the roof ridge (climbing is scary), but the views are worth it! : )

Address: Place de l'Eglise. Entrance to the church is free. Climbing to the roof - 2.50 euros (price 2013) To climb up, you need to exit the church and go around it from the other side.
