Athens Olympic Sports Complex

OAKA, Olympic Athletic Center of Athens
Greece, Athens
The Athens Olympic Sports Complex was built in 1982 and completely renovated in 2004 by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The complex bears the name of Spyros Lewis, the first winner of the gold medal at the first revived Olympic Games in 1896. The main decoration of the Athens sports center is the athletics stadium, which became the symbol of the 2004 Olympic Games.

The Olympic Stadium in Athens is a huge sports complex. It hosted the 28th Summer Olympic Games in Athens in 2004. On the eve of the game, the complex was completely reconstructed according to the project of the Spanish architect, who managed to build something light, airy and weightless from heavy metal structures. The most impressive was the Wall of Nations - a structure made of steel pipes that can change in waves, creating beautiful chiaroscuro on the main pedestrian path and the Square of Nations.
