City walls of Dubrovnik

City Walls
Croatia, Dubrovnik
City walls with fortresses and fortifications were built based on the latest and modern weapons. Over the centuries, the walls were strengthened and supplemented with structures corresponding to the new achievements of military technology and architecture.

On the walls you can get around the old city around the perimeter. From the top there are magnificent views of the city, the sea and the city harbour.

Dubrovnik is known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic", a historical landmark on the Croatian island coast of Dalmatia. Massive stone walls - over 25 meters high and 6 meters wide in some places - protect Stary Grad (Old Town), remnants from the 15th century when Dubrovnik was an independent republic vying with neighboring Venice for influence and power. Looking at them, you involuntarily feel the power and reliability. A very energetic place.

As soon as I arrive in a new place, the first thing I do is to climb as high as possible to see everything from above. A mountain, hillock or tower will do. In this case, it was the city walls. And although the entrance there was not cheap (if I'm not mistaken, 50 kunas or 7 euros), we did not miss this opportunity and did not regret it. We liked the walk along the wall more than the walk below. And upstairs it was not as hot as downstairs, in a stone bag - a breeze blew from the sea. Walking along the wall, we admired the incomparable Croatian seascapes, as well as the red sea of tiled roofs that stretched below, casually peeping at the life of the locals.

The city walls of Dubrovnik are very popular with tourists. The walls surround the entire city in a dense ring and have been perfectly preserved to this day. If you go upstairs, then you can enjoy a magnificent view of the sea, the old town and the picturesque city harbor. Walking along the walls is very interesting, but it is better to choose not hot weather, more than 2 kilometers under the sun is very difficult. If you still decide to take a walk, then I advise you to start your tour of the city with them, at the end of the tour it will be very difficult to master such a trip.
