Parish Church of Belváros

Belvárosi plébániatemplom, Inner City Parish Church
Hungary, Budapest
Belváros Parish Church is located in the eponymous district of Budapest on Danube River. The first wooden church on this site was built in the 11th century. In the 16th century, after the capture of the city by the Turks, it was converted into a mosque, and after the liberation from the invaders, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style. The church has a richly decorated interior; the relics of Bishop Gellert are kept here.

The temple combines features of different architectural styles - Baroque facade, decorated in the XVIII century, Gothic medieval buildings and part of the foundation of the ancient Roman fortress, which was once located on this site. The relics of St. Laszlo, Elizabeth of Hungary and St. Gellert are kept in the church. Composers Ferenc Liszt and Richard Wagner gave concerts at the church organ.
