The Medieval Baptistery of San Giovanni is located in Florence, next to Giotto's Belfry and Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral . The Baptistery is an octagonal building finished with white and green marble. The Baptistery of San Giovanni is considered one of the oldest buildings in Florence. It is believed to have been built in the 5th century. The baptistery building acquired its modern look in the 11th-12th centuries.

Baptistery
This is a special building designed for the rite of Baptism (Baptista in Latin - Baptist). Its walls are completely decorated with white, green and black marble. Attention is drawn to the Gates of Paradise, which are composed of gilded plates, which depict biblical stories. They were created by sculptor Lorenzo Ghiberti in 1425-1452. The originals are now housed in the Duomo Museum, and copies are on display here.→

Baptistery. Florence.
In front of the entrance to the Basilica of Santa Maria del Fiore is an octagonal building. Dante was baptized here. On the east side, pay attention to the doors - the Gates of Paradise. Made by Ghiberti. On them you can see a self-portrait of Ghiberti. Around 10 tiles with bas-reliefs of the Old Testament, frame. On which there are 24 ledges with the heads of artists. Ghiberti is fourth from the top in the right corner of the left half. Unfortunately, I did not have a chance to visit inside (lack of time).→
