The Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva is located near the Pantheon on Piazza Minerva. A special property of the church is the Carafa chapel painted by Filippino Lippi, the baroque Aldobrandini chapel and the statue of Christ standing with a cross, the work of Michelangelo. Many prominent Tuscans are buried here - the artist Fra Angelico, Popes Paul IV and Urban VII. The Basilica of Saint Mary above Minerva is the only surviving Gothic church in Rome.

Gothic church in Rome
Interested in many things: 1. It was here that Galileo renounced his views. 2. Statue of Christ by Michelangelo (later shod and covered with a loincloth by church zealots). 3. The tomb of Catherine of Siena (albeit without a head, which was given to her homeland. It is strange why she was not buried in the church of Catherine of Siena, located nearby). 4. The tomb of Fra Beato Angelico, a wonderful Renaissance artist, beatified by the Vatican, the heavenly patron of all artists. 5. Chapel of Carafa with frescoes by Lippi.→

Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva
This basilica is the only one in Rome that has retained its Gothic style. The luminaries of the Tuscan school worked on the interior decoration. Well, for us, as fans of Michelangelo, it was most interesting to see his next statue - the Risen Christ. Beato Angelico is also buried here.→
