The Lateran Basilica is the cathedral church of the city of Rome and the seat of the chair of the Roman bishop (as well as the papal throne). In the Catholic hierarchy, this church bears the title "Basilica maior" and stands above all other churches in the world, not excluding the Cathedral of St. Peter, as evidenced by the inscription above the entrance: "the most holy Lateran Church, mother and head of all the churches of the city and the world."

Lateran Basilica
During sightseeing tours, they do not drive to the Lateran Basilica. Only independently. I advise you to visit the courtyard (for a fee) a masterpiece of the work of the masters of Cosmati and in such a small museum inside the courtyard look for a sketch of Raphael's Madonna. And one of the entrance doors of the basilica used to close the Roman Curia (because of it, we actually drove).→

how i saw dad
On our trip to Rome one day, after having lunch and rest, we decided to visit the Lateran Temple. Having descended into the subway (it is dark and dirty in Rome), after two stops we exit. We have a travel ticket, valid for the metro and any transport in Rome for three days. It's cheaper than single tickets. In front of us are the remains of the ancient fortress walls of Rome. Behind them is the Lateran Basilica (summer residence of the Pope). A very beautiful temple, sculptures on the roof, at the entrance, in the interior.→
