grand canal

Grand Canal, Grand Canal, Canal Grande, Grand Canal
Italy, Venice
The Grand Canal is the most famous canal in Venice, while it is not a canal in the strict sense: it is not an artificially dug structure, but a former shallow channel between the islands of the lagoon, one of which is Rialto.

The canal runs through the entire city. Starting from the lagoon at the station, it runs through the city, repeating an inverted S, and ends, connecting with the San Marco Canal and the La Giudecca Canal at the customs building. The canal is 3800 meters long, 30 to 70 meters wide, and about 5 meters deep.

The Grand Canal is the main Venetian street, but not the one we are all used to - paved and paved, but a real river that goes around Venice in the shape of the letter S. Along the entire canal there are facades of houses that have two exits - on land and on water. A walk along the Grand Canal is an unforgettable experience and the embodiment of the most cherished dream. There you can see not only residential buildings, but also palaces and churches. If you want to see Venice in all its glory, then the best thing is to go for a walk along the Grand Canal.

Walking along the Grand Canal is a great pleasure. My advice - do not spare money for the gondola, it is very harmoniously combined with the canal. And where else can you ride it, if not in Venice? Gondolas - seem to have been created exclusively for tourists, because locals only use vaporetto. Pleasure is not cheap, in the season it reaches 200 euros for a gondola for a 40-minute walk, now the gondola cost us 80 euros. The maximum occupancy in the boat is 5 people. Personally, I really liked the walk - a slight swaying, beautiful views of the narrow channels, gondoliers in a hurry to carry as many tourists as possible, and their OOOO-ee! , which spreads along the canal, so that the gondolier emerging from the corner can correctly maneuver and go around the boat going towards it.

I also rode a vaporetto along the Grad Canal for the first time. But for the second time, my friends and I rented a guide, but not with a gondola, since everyone did not fit, but with a boat (like a punt, controlled by an oar like a gondola, sorry in this matter, complete zero) She took us from Piazza Roma to San Marco. Definitely better than vaporetto. But gondolas, as far as I remember, there are some restrictions on the movement of the Grand Canal. If you are going to ride a gondola, be sure to clarify this.

Waterway of Venice. In fact, a trip along the Grand Canal is such a sightseeing tour of the city. And yes, I still remember my delight from the first trip along the canal : ) Practical points: - how to move? Public transport "vaparetto"; - Where can I buy a ticket? There are ticket offices at almost every pier. There are also “yellow cars” here - before boarding, the ticket must be validated, the date and time of validation will be printed on the reverse side. The travel card is composted once - before the first use; - how much does the ticket cost? A single ticket costs 7 euros (valid for one hour after composting).

It is IMPOSSIBLE to be in Venice and not drive through the Grand Canal! If you arrive at Roma station, then you will pass part of the canal to Piazza San Marco. But this is not the end! If you don't know anything about Venice, take a guide. It's just that many palazzos have not been decorated with gold for a long time, and only the guide will tell you about the intricacies of all the palazzos. If you just want to see the canal, look at the time you use your vaporetto pass. Although there will be no problems if time runs out.

Grand Canal. What to write about him? Any of the tourists, getting to Venice, will not be able to pass it if they want to see the beauties of Venice. I will quickly describe my vision. After we walked on San Marco, we decided to take a vaporetto ride along the Grand Canal. Evening, sunset. First, be sure to print out the vaporetto schedule. Our #1 Vaporetto ride ended up with our route to Murano Island, where our hotel is, no longer working and we spent half the night in Venice to get to the hotel.
