The fishing village of Volendam is located on the shores of Lake Markermeer in the north of the Netherlands, as part of the municipality of Edam-Volendam.
The village is the seat of the Volendam football club.

Calm and peaceful town
We visited on January 1st, after an explosive (literally) New Year's Eve celebration in the center of Amsterdam. Calm and quiet town, with sea air and friendly people. Walking along the embankment, you can drop into fish eateries serving traditional dishes. I recommend turning deep into the town and taking a walk among the houses. Recommended to visit : -)→

Delicious herring and beautiful architecture
Was at the end of August 2018. Cool and atmospheric place where you can admire the beautiful architecture of the village and eat fresh seafood. Volendam, like the rest of Holland, is famous for its herring. I advise you to go to De Haven Volendam in Volendam. This place is popular with tourists and locals. Pricing policy: from 1.5 to 9 euros. I advise you to try the herring hot dog. Very tasty and satisfying. Here you can take a bunch of Insta photos near the gingerbread houses and on the pier with sailing fishing boats in the background.→

I don't understand what to do here
Why Volendam is listed in tourist guides at all remains unclear. In addition to a few shops, restaurants, we did not see anything interesting. You might want to look into the windows of local residents - there are a lot of them, the windows are large, and no one knows about curtains in Holland. True, in some houses the TV is placed near the window. And then it turns out that the whole family sits in front of the window and stares at everyone who passes along the street.→
