The Cathedral of Saints Stanislaus and Wenceslas in Krakow was built on Wawel Hill in the 14th century. The church is the cathedral church of the Krakow Archdiocese of the Catholic Church of Poland.

The cathedral also served as a court temple, and the kings of Poland were buried in underground tombs. Wawel Cathedral was rebuilt several times in the following centuries. The Zygmunt Bell Tower, built in the 14th century as part of the fortifications of the Wawel Hill, houses the Zygmunt Bell, the most famous of the bells in Poland.

Wawel Cathedral

The Cathedral of Saints Stanislaus and Wenceslas is the main shrine of the Poles. Therefore, the flow of visitors, both Poles and foreign tourists, goes from morning to evening. Polish monarchs were crowned in the cathedral for 500 years. Here in the crypts, they lie. The remains of 17 royal persons rest in the temple, including Queen Jadwiga, Stefan Batory, Jan Sobieski, Augustus the Strong; the holy martyr Bishop Stanislaw Szczepanowski, Polish writers Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Sł owacki; prominent politicians Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Jó zef Pilsudski, Jó zef Poniatowski, Wł adysł aw Sikorski, and Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, who died in a plane crash near Smolensk in 2010.→

For lovers of historical places and views of the city

The cathedral was originally built in the Gothic style, but due to constant additions and rebuilding, it turned out to be such a harmonious mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque. When Krakow was the capital of the state, the cathedral served as a court temple, and the kings of Poland were buried in its underground tombs. The presidential couple Kachinsky, who died near Smolensk in 2010, is also buried here. The real legend of the Cathedral was the Sigmund Bell, which is located on the Sigismund Tower.→
