Profitable house of merchant E.I. Pervushina

House of the Sverdlovsk Radio Committee
russia, Yekaterinburg
The apartment house Pervushin in Yekaterinburg was built in 1906 by order and at the expense of the merchant of the 2nd guild Evgeny Ivanovich Pervushin, a representative of the famous dynasty of grain merchants. The stone two-story L-shaped mansion was built according to the project of the Moscow architect P.A. Zarutsky in the eclectic style, with an attic and a basement, facing two streets. The first floor was used as a store, the second was rented out as residential premises, so the entrances to the floors are separated, the entrance to the store is the main one and is located in the center of the building. The main entrance, as well as the eastern and southern facades of the building are crowned with domes with weather vanes, the facades are decorated with patterned stucco and other relief details.
The first tenants were the city court and the county treasury. Under Soviet rule, the mansion became the property of the state and was used for its intended purpose. From 1941 to 1943, in the strictest secrecy, from the basement of the mansion, where the radio station was located, the famous announcer Yuri Levitan read military reports all over the country. After the war, the radio station, together with the transmitter, was used by the city radio committee. In 2011, the restoration of the architectural monument was carried out, in which it is planned to open the museum room of Yuri Borisovich Levitan.

During the Great Patriotic War, radio broadcasting to the USSR was carried out from Sverdlovsk, the capital of the Urals, not so much because of the threat of bombing, but because the radio towers in Moscow had to be dismantled - they, all the more working, would be an excellent beacon for fascist aviation. From here, from the house of the Sverdlovsk Radio Committee, the unforgettable voice of Yuri Levitan sounded: "Attention! Moscow is speaking! " For this voice and acting skills, Adolf Hitler declared Yuri Levitan his personal enemy.
