The Moscow Zoo is one of the largest and oldest zoos in Russia. Founded in 1864. Its collection includes more than 1000 species of animals, the number of living specimens is more than 6000 individuals (at the end of 2005).
The main goals of the zoo are environmental protection, educational and research activities. Excursions, training sessions with schoolchildren, field lectures with a demonstration of tamed animals are regularly held at the zoo.
