The ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey. The city was built in the second millennium BC, but completely destroyed by an earthquake, after which it was rebuilt in 190 BC. During its existence, the "holy city" Hierapolis passed under the control of Rome, Byzantium and Turkey, was a popular medical resort for wealthy people of Rome and the center of the Byzantine bishopric. The city was subjected to earthquakes several times, as a result of which it was finally destroyed in 1354.
The first excavations of ancient Hierapolis began at the end of the 19th century, and restoration work is still ongoing. Tourists can see many of the sights of the city: a huge amphitheater, the temple of Apollo, the mineral Cleopatra's pool, etc.

Huge amphitheater
The ruins of the city are next to the travertines. Excavations are underway. Be sure to wear a hat, preferably sports shoes. The total distance traveled along the hiking trails is no more than 2 kilometers. The main attraction is the amphitheater. You get beautiful photos. A must to visit.→

Interesting, actively restored
Near the travertine terraces of Pamukkale. Interesting place. especially if the guide is not too lazy to tell. We were lucky as long as we listened. three groups came, took pictures and left. The object is being actively restored, so in a couple of years you can repeat the visit. So far, the most striking object is the theater→
