Princes' Islands

Prens Adaları, Adalar, Adalar, Prince Islands, Kiziladalar, Kızıl Adalar
Turkey, Istanbul
The Princes' Islands is an archipelago of nine islands in the Sea of Marmara, located off the coast of Istanbul. The islands got their name because of the tradition of Byzantine emperors to exile here their close relatives and other noble persons who encroached on their throne. This tradition was continued by the Turks after the capture of the islands in 1453 - relatives of the Ottoman sultans were sent there for exile. In the 19th century, wealthy Turks began to build country houses and summer cottages on Adalars.
During the summer, the Princes' Islands are a popular day trip destination from Istanbul. The islands can be reached by ferry (the duration of the voyage is about an hour) both from the Asian part of the city (to Kartal and Bostanji) and from the European part - from the Kabatash pier. The ferry berths at four main islands - Buyukada, Heybeliada, Burgazada and Kinalyada. The island of Kashikadasi is a private property, Cedefadasi is sparsely populated, the other three are uninhabited.
People come here to relax from the bustle of the city. Hiking and cycling, chaise tours, beaches, monasteries, churches, mansions from different periods - all this attracts many visitors to the Princes' Islands.

Being more than once in Istanbul, it was difficult to surprise me. But for all this time I could not get to the islands, and finally I took an excursion to Buyukada Island (this is the largest island of the Princes' Islands archipelago, although we have an area of .5 sq. Km). There are many attractions in this small area. In addition to the Museum of the Princes' Islands, near the monastery of St. Nicholas, there is the monastery of Jesus Christ, the monastery of St.
