The monument to Bohdan Khmelnitsky is located on Sophia Square near Sophia Cathedral. It was opened on July 23, 1888. On a granite pedestal stands a copper equestrian statue of Bogdan Khmelnitsky holding a mace in his right hand. The monument on Sofia Square is a popular place for political demonstrations.
