Lviv Powder Tower is a military defense building of the Renaissance. Built in 1554-1556. The tower was part of the fortification system of Lviv, which was one of the most important cities in the northern part of the Commonwealth. It was located on the shaft behind the second line of city fortifications and was used to store gunpowder. In peacetime, grain was kept in the Powder Tower.

The tower was built of unhewn stone. The thickness of the walls is about 2.5 meters. Now the lower part of the tower is hidden under the ground due to the rising level of the soil around.

In 1954 the tower was restored. In 1959, the entrance to it was decorated with figurines of lions, and the building itself was transferred to the Lviv House of Architects.

tower like a tower
Rough ridiculous building in the center of Lviv. The lions at the entrance, in my opinion, are also not of particular value. There is no creative atmosphere inside the "Architect's House" either. A restaurant was attached to the tower, it looks picturesque, but it was not possible to try.→

Find a lion in Lviv
Lviv is the city of the lion. There are many of them here. But finding a lion in Lviv is not so easy, well, not counting those that guard the entrance to the city hall on Rynok Square. Some hide on the facades of houses, others near museums, but the most good-natured giants lurk at the entrance to the Powder Tower. You won’t immediately notice them behind the greenery of the bushes in the shade of the park surrounding them. The Powder Tower is a completely preserved fragment of the defense structures of Lviv.→
