The Holy Assumption Cathedral was built in 1887 on the site of a burned-out wooden church of the 17th century and was the main temple of the Mirgorod regiment. The cathedral is an architectural monument in the style of classicism, it was painted by the students of V.M. Vasnetsov, the altar was decorated with a unique ceramic iconostasis made in the Mirgorodskaya school of industrial arts and crafts. After the discovery of mineral springs and the development of the surrounding area, the cathedral ended up on the territory of the resort.
From 1937 to 1942 and from 1957 to 1990 the church was closed. The bell tower and domes were destroyed, the iconostasis was dismantled, the unique frescoes and murals were painted over. The building was used as a warehouse for mineral water; since 1976, a pump room of one of the sanatoriums was equipped here. At the beginning of 1990, CJSC "Mirgorodkurort" handed over the church building to the Orthodox community, already on December 30, 1990, after repair and refurbishment, a service was held in the church. The bell tower was rebuilt, bells were purchased, the main carved wooden iconostasis and two small ones were made, the artist Vladimir Tkachenko repainted the walls and ceiling of the church in 4 years. The church has a Sunday school and an Orthodox library with 400 copies of spiritual literature.

Place of Spiritual Power

The Holy Assumption Cathedral is located in the picturesque area of the Mirgorod resort. The buildings of the sanatorium "Khorol" are located around it, towards the city "Mirgorodskaya puddle". The cathedral has a long history, and now it has been practically recreated anew, decorating the Khorol shore. The cathedral is visited not only by local residents, but also by vacationers of the Mirgorod resort. Despite the covid restrictions, it was almost impossible to break into it on Trinity.→
