Kyz-Kule Tower

Kyz-Kule Castle, Maiden's Tower
Crimea, Bakhchysarai
To the north-west of the "cave city" Eski-Kermen, on the plateau of the neighboring cape, there is a tower with a gate - the remains of the Kyz-Kule (Maiden's Tower) castle. Kyz-Kule is a characteristic medieval castle-fortress. In front of the tower there was a shallow ditch, they crossed it on a swing bridge, to which a road led from the south. Both the ditch and the road were carved into the rock. The fortress of Kyz-Kule in the XIV century was destroyed by fire. Only the tower remained, covered with poetic legends and legends... There was also a settlement in the gorge to the west of Kyz-Kul in the Middle Ages. A small church was carved into one of the rocks of the gorge, in which fragments of fresco painting of the 12th-14th centuries have been preserved. In literature, this church is called the Temple of Donators. It is believed that both the temple and the village in the gorge once belonged to the owners of Kyz-Kul.

It is most convenient to get to the foot of Kyz-Kule by your car through the village. Kholmovka. You will reach the Eski-Kermen ranch camp site, and then you will have an extreme climbing route along a steep cleft: first, along the path through the bushes, then along a wooden stepladder and, finally, along a rubber rope, you climb the Topshan plateau, on which the tower is located Kyz-Kule. I recommend visiting in good weather and dry rocks. Route for well-prepared tourists. Previously, it was possible to enter the Topshan plateau from the northwest, through the Cherkez-Kermen valley, but now private property blocks the entrance to the valley, so only the extreme route remains.
