They say it's better to sail on a boat to some islands ...

I didn’t see the inhabitants at all. Near the center ... the beach is good, they are constantly cleaned, though in the morning the tide and the sea goes down, but the merchants get bored, well, it’s everywhere in Pattaya, but on the islands it’s certainly more interesting, opposite the Tolik-tour hotel, here they are and went, there is no difference and cheaper, and you can bargain)))

By the way, this is not the ocean, but the Gulf of Thailand)))

I was for the first time in Thailand, in Pattaya, in the center of the Grand Mirage, before that I was in Turkey, UAE, the sea in Pattaya is somehow incomprehensible, muddy, dirty, we only swam on the beach once in the sea ... the water in the pool looks like a sea one, but with bleach. We went to a ko-lan, the water is clean, transparent, but everywhere there are a lot of one-pack bags, etc. while we were sailing to the island, a lot of garbage came right into the sea, apparently someone threw it from the boat into sea. the beach on ko-lan seems to be the cleanest-orange (when we sailed from the pier, they gave us orange stickers, they are different, who-on which beach you went-by colored stickers they determine-who-where. on the beach at the hotel-when low tides, you can pick up shells, crabs, there are some other jellyfish that are incomprehensible, they are buried in the sand, and when you step on it, it has tentacles, like nozzles, I even have a photo of it ... don’t sting, be calm...

the beach is great, I can send a fresh photo. But in the sea, I would not dare to swim there. In Pattaya, the sea is dirty everywhere. Very dirty. I recently took pictures of tourists there, barely went to the waist and immediately into the shower. The hotel is awesome. I would say the best in Pattaya.
Regarding the fact that in the ocean (Gulf of Thailand). Basically everything is fine. But personally, I always have problems, at any time of the year and in any place. I don’t know who and why exactly me, but something bites constantly. I just go in and hear how small needles dig into me. Then these bites itch for 3-4 days. The bite itself is similar to a mosquito, but lasts much longer. And the most annoying thing is that neither my wife nor my child is bitten by anything, but always me. Tourists also rarely complain. I don't know what it depends on. I guess I'm delicious :))))))) My wife had such bites only in Phuket, but never here. There are no more dangers.

the nearest island is Koh Lan. Everyone goes there to swim. Travel options 3.
1. By boat to Tawan beach for 30 baht one way. The boat comes to the pier, along which you go to the beach. There are a lot of people, boats, etc. on this beach. It is very big. There are small beaches nearby, which can be reached by a bridge, but there are always a lot of people there, especially on weekends.
2. By boat to the beaches on the other side of the island. The cost is 150 baht in 2 directions. There are 2 beaches there. As mentioned above, when landing you are marked with red or orange stickers. I like red better. There are much fewer people there, the beach is also smaller, but there are no yachts, boats. The landing is carried out from the boat to a small boat, which swims up to the shore and you need to jump from it into the water. Be prepared to wet yourself up to your waist, although not always, depends on the carrier.
3. By speedboat (speed boat) to any of these islands. The cost is 300 baht per person. Landing right on the shore, but get your feet wet too.
You do not need to take a boat ticket for 30 baht. It leaves right along the pier, at the end on the left side every hour. Tickets upon boarding, or rather payment without tickets.
Boat tickets for 150 baht are sold in the central building at the beginning of the pier and at the end of the pier

after turning left and then left again. There he goes.
Speed boat tickets for 300 baht are sold in the central building and near the departure point, which is halfway to the end of the pier on the left and right.
There are 2 ways to get to the pier from Centara.
1. Taxi from the hotel itself, approximately 300 baht for the whole taxi one way.
2. Get out onto Naklua street (15 minutes walk) and take a tuk-tuk to Walking Street (10 baht per person). Reach the end of the street. There is a pier on the right side.
Or call me and don't think about anything :))))))))))))))))

By the way, a very important detail. If you go for 150 baht, then do not forget to keep your return tickets, otherwise you will have to pay again for the return trip.

Forgot one more option. Right along the pier, at the end, on the right, a boat leaves for the central pier of the island of Koh Lan. Every half hour. But from the pier you will have to get to the desired beach by tuk-tuk. The price is different. To Tawan 20 baht.

From the beaches of Koh Lan, I would advise Samae. On Koh Lan, I was on 3 beaches: Tawan, Tiwaen (I am writing from memory) and Samae. I didn’t like Tawan, it’s somehow uncomfortable and it is preferred by tourists from Asia. But I liked Samae in all respects, not Bounty yet, but ... :))). By boat (aka ferry) and to the central pier and to Tawan, then by tuk-tuk to any beach. I didn’t use speedboats. 8-9 o'clock, back-15-16. There are a lot of cafes on the beach. Once at low tide and diving 3 meters (i.e. 4 meters deep), our (Russo tourist!) managed to raise a sea urchin from the bottom in a plastic box - Half the beach came running to watch. I didn’t see anything more from living creatures (biters). Take a beach towel from the hotel, and on Samae a sunbed with a mattress and under an umbrella 30-50 baht (the price depends on the location - 1 line, 2, etc.)

Thank you very much to everyone, Amir1, and to you for the special informativeness of the story :))) Now it’s somehow calmer))

When we were fishing, one tourist was stung by some kind of muck, on his shoulder, like red thin threads, remained. I don’t know what it was, but the skipper started to fuss and the fisherwoman’s grimace showed that it hurt more than from nettles.
I also don’t advise you to run into sea urchins on the islands - the rest of your vacation will be ruined.
And after sunset it is better not to swim - small slopes swim up, but in hotels with their own beach you will not be allowed.
The puffer is rare even at depth, and the katranschiki are so small that if you swim in swimming trunks and don’t spread your fingers, then they won’t bite off anything :)

"thin red threads remained" = Smena, they were jellyfish, very similar to them.

Probably jellyfish, and the Thai skipper was very scared. There was a TV show and they said that in a year, much more people die from jellyfish than from sharks. The tourist had such burns, only the area was three times smaller:

yes, they are jellyfish.
But still small, big ones may not leave a chance. There are a huge variety of them.
But something I do not remember the cases of fatal or severe in Pattaya.
I myself once went through the porridge of jellyfish floating near the Ambassador, but they, apparently, were still small.

Regarding the beaches on Koh Lan, I can say that how many people - so many opinions. Everyone has their reasons =)
I think you need to go around a couple yourself and understand what is dearer to your heart =)
