The monument to Jan Hus was erected on Old Town Square in 1915 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the execution of this Czech national hero. The author of the project was the famous Czech sculptor Ladislav Shaloun. He worked on the creation of the monument for 14 years. The monument to Jan Hus is a complex sculptural composition that reflects the significance of his personality in the history of the Czech Republic. The monument depicts Hussite warriors, a young mother as a symbol of the ideas of Hus and the national revival of the Czechs, and of course Hus himself. There is also an inscription on the pedestal "Love people" - which reflects the basic philosophy of life and teachings of the great thinker.

A majestic monument
To commemorate the 500th anniversary of Jan Hus in 1915, a monument to him was erected on the Old Town Square in the most honorable place for all Czechs. It was created by the famous sculptor and artist Ladislav Shalon. The monument looks very original. This is not an ordinary pedestal on which the figure stands. It seems to grow from the square itself. Note that this is not just a monument, but rather a whole composition. Here and goose, here and a young woman-mother, whom the artist wanted to show the revival of the ideas of Goose and all the people.→
