New World street

Street Novy Svet
Czech republic, Prague
A small street - only 450 meters - in the historical center of Prague, along the former city walls. The history of the New World begins in the 14th century, when ordinary people began to settle here: craftsmen, artisans, the “servicing staff” of Prague Castle - a majestic fortress, the residence of Czech kings and emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. To brighten up the gray everyday life, the locals gave their houses "rich" names, mostly with the prefix "golden". This is how the houses “At the Golden Pear”, “At the Golden Plow”, “At the Golden Pheasant”, etc. appeared. It should be noted that these houses were very small, extremely inconvenient for living by today's standards. Some of the original buildings were destroyed after major fires broke out here in 1420 and 1541. However, in the 17th century, as a result of large-scale reconstruction and restoration work, the street acquired its former appearance. Over time, the “golden” street with the romantic name Novy Svet was chosen by representatives of the metropolitan bohemia and scientists. Ironically, the prices for the local real estate, thanks to the proximity to the Prague Castle, have long gone beyond reasonable. Thus, the dream of the first settlers of wealth came true centuries later.

As an alternative to Golden Street, I can offer Novy Svet Street and nearby streets - Cerninska, Kapucinska, Kanovnicka. This is my favorite way from Loretta to Hradč any Square. The advantages of this route are romantic desert streets (almost without people), small and authentic houses, with an excess of small details - house signs, decor. The wow-effect of this place for me is that you walk away from the Strahov Monastery, a hundred meters from Loretta and get from a very crowded tourist place in a real mystical Prague, it seems that a gate or door will open in the house and the owners will leave medieval clothes.
