The Athenian Agora is the city square of Athens, covering an area of approximately 5 hectares and located on a gentle slope northwest of the Acropolis. Since 1931, the American School of Ancient Studies, under the direction of Leslie Shire, has carried out archaeological excavations throughout the Agora.
