Monteriggioni

Monteriggioni
Italy, Siena
Located in the Tuscany region, a medieval walled city founded in 1203. Monteriggioni is surrounded by a powerful fortress wall 750 meters long, over which rise fourteen towers, which were once mentioned by the famous Italian poet and Renaissance thinker Dante Alighieri. Special attention deserves the Church of Santa Maria Assunta on the main square of the city, built in the Romanesque-Gothic style 10 years after the founding of Monteriggioni. Entrance to the wall is paid: 2 euros.

It can only be reached by car. We visited this fortress in the morning in the bright rays of the morning sun. From this impression from what he saw was extraordinary. There were practically no people anywhere, we saw only 3 people in the entire fortress. It felt like we were transported by a time machine to an abandoned ancient city. For the first time I saw pavements originally paved with stone. The fortress is small, we passed it all in 20 minutes. During the day, cafes and shops for tourists probably work there, but in the morning only the church was open, in which there was no one.
