Annunciation Church of the Moldovitsa Monastery

Church of the Annunciation of Moldovita Monastery
Romania, Suceava
The Annunciation Church of the Moldovitsa Monastery was built, like the entire complex, in 1532 by the illegitimate son of King Stefan III, Petru Rares. The church is the central building of the monastery and a prime example of the painted church of Southern Bukovina. The outer walls of the temple were decorated with frescoes in 1537 and have been preserved in good condition thanks to the efforts of the nuns. The wall paintings are dominated by blue and yellow, the most famous image being the “Storming of Constantinople” fresco.

The Church of the Annunciation is the main and only temple of the convent of Moldovitsa, Romania. Moldovitsa is famous for its amazing church wall paintings. The frescoes on the outer walls of the local temple appeared in 1539, but thanks to the care of the nuns, they have been perfectly preserved. The church is included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. Highly recommended to visit.
