On a kayak along Vilkovo
Vilkovo - Ukrainian Venice. Not everyone will agree with this, since the only similarity is that the population actually lives on the water, but the color of Venice is completely different from the color of Vilkovo, which is why it is worth visiting even the most sophisticated travelers.
We visited Vilkovo for the first time in kayaks and were surprised how people adapted to life on the water. They have to follow the rules of the road on the canals, as on highways! Each yard has a boat or boat, and not just one, each yard has its own pier.
The canals running between the houses are cleaned from the mule in early autumn, and the mule itself is used in the garden as fertilizer. The Vilkovites, who live in the "dry" part of the city, and there is one, still have vegetable gardens on the banks of the canals and the Danube floodplains, and since they cannot be reached by land, these people also have their own boats. Houses are built using reeds, and when the water level rises, they walk only along narrow masonry, on which it is difficult even for two people to pass each other.
Children from early childhood know how to swim, because for them to cross the water erik, it's like for ours - to cross the road. Children spend all their free time in the water - this is a place for games, recreation, fishing.
Walking past a group of children browsing the nets, I felt like I was in some kind of TV show about exotic countries. (this moment is captured on the second video, link at the bottom of the story. )
Many Old Believers live in Vilkovo, who honor their traditions for many centuries, if you are interested in learning their history, then go on a walking tour and visit the Vilkovo Museum, the port and the Church of the Old Believers.
