Land of Sakartvelo
"Georgia" is a Russian exonym for a country in the Caucasus known as Sakartvelo in Georgian. The first mention of the country with the name "SAKARTVELO" appeared at the end of the 10th - beginning of the 11th century. Since the 13th century, this name of the all-Georgian kingdom has completely entered into regular official use. The memory and dream of a united Georgia - Sakartvelo - survived even after the political catastrophe of the 15th century, when the Georgian kingdom broke up into three parts: Kartli, Kakheti and Imereti.
The European "George" comes from the Persian designation of Georgians - "gurg", which came to Western European crusaders and pilgrims in the Holy Land. They displayed this name as "George", explaining its origin from St. George. The Russian exonym "Georgia" is also of Persian origin.
As a result of the rearrangement of letters in the travel notes of the first Russian travelers, "Gurzi" and "Gurzyn land" turned into "Georgians" and "Georgia".
The route of our tour - "Land of Sakartvelo" - passes all over Georgia: Tbilisi - New Shuamta - Old Shuamta - Tsinandali - Signakhi - Vardzia - Rabat - Borjomi - Abastumani - Kutaisi - Tskaltubo - Zugdidi - Mestia - Hatsvali - Batumi - Mtskheta - Gori - Uplistsikhe - Chateau Mukhrani - Sighnaghi - Tbilisi.
History and centuries-old traditions, magnificent nature, hospitality and responsiveness make a great impression on travelers.
Numerous reviews of our tourists testify to this.
Acquaintance with Georgia. Review added: October 03, 2017
“I never wrote reviews about trips, but now I really want to. I was going to Georgia for twenty years, putting everything off for “later”, for more distant countries later.
Now I am sure that in a year I will definitely get out to this beautiful country again. Our September tour "Land of Sakartvelo" is well planned for the first acquaintance with the country, and at the same time quite eventful. We saw the capital, and provinces, and ancient fortresses, and caves, and the sea, and rivers, and mountains, mountain passes of incredible beauty and the Inguri hydroelectric power station! The trip ended with a visit to Svaneti - a historical mountainous region, this place definitely deserves a separate story, extraordinary beauty, originality. And Georgian cuisine, as if without it - they didn’t try anything! And, of course, when getting to know the country, and indeed in any tour, the person who represents the country, the guide, plays a big role.
We were lucky in this too, because from the host side we were accompanied by Merab, a man who loves both his country and his work, and us, tourists, who are so different and sometimes quite difficult, but not a single request was left without attention, not a single question no answer, and we all went home happy, full of vivid impressions and with suitcases full of all kinds of products of the local food and wine industries. Thank you Miracle, thank you Merab, we will definitely be back!”
Tour in Georgia "Land of Sakartvelo". Review added: October 22, 2017, a group of tourists from Nizhny Novgorod.
“In September 2017, we decided to visit Georgia. Arriving in Tbilisi, we were met at the airport by the guide Merab Churgulia, immediately welcoming us with a good-natured smile. On the way to the hotel, Merab talked a lot about Tbilisi, about the history and traditions of the Georgian people. The city of Tbilisi delighted us with its ancient history.
All walking and car tours in the cities of Georgia: Mtskheta, Kutaisi, Borjomi, Batumi were accompanied by fascinating stories of Merab and local guides, rare historical data. On the way in the car, Merab introduced us to Georgian music and national songs. Accommodation in Mestia in a family hotel, where a wonderful friendly family delighted us with many-voiced singing at a festively laid table, brought a special flavor. We enjoyed the height of the Caucasus Mountains, the sound of waterfalls, climbing to the glacier. Thanks to Merab, we tasted a lot of national dishes, drinks, wines, desserts. We were struck by the hospitality and conscientious work of the guide Merab Churgulia. I didn’t want to leave Georgia, we decided to definitely come again!”
Journey through Georgia "Land of Sakartvelo" from MIRAKL in autumn 2017
This autumn, my friends and I traveled around Georgia and in the mountains of Svaneti we climbed to the sources of the Inguri.
At first we saw a calm, unhurried river with an absolutely fantastic color of water - girls dream of such an eye color. Turquoise?, a ray of the morning sun, passed through an emerald?, a rare variety of blue-green malachite? I cannot describe to you that which cannot be described and which can only be comprehended personally. We got out of the car and said in unison a primitive “ah!”. Our guide could not drive us back for a long time. I wanted to look and look at this river, sorry for the stereotyped words. Then the road along the Enguri began, and we turned our necks, catching pieces of a wonderful spectacle on the turns.
The river became narrower and narrower, its character changed - rocky rapids, narrow crevices appeared, the water began to boil, boiled with spray, grumbled. The color of the water also changed - it was the color of the sky before a thunderstorm. Large boulders prevented the river from making its way into the valley, and she got angry, fought and won.
The last section of the path had to be passed on foot, over stones, along a mountain path, gasping for the life-giving air of the mountains.
We walked along the river - cold spray reached us. It seemed to me that the river cheered me up - stones, rifts, huge boulders interfered with it, but it fought for freedom and had a goal. Thank you, Inguri, you taught me courage and resilience.
Guys, it was worth it. In the mountains along the gorge. the glacier slipped. From above, it was covered with small pebbles and rubble, but under this film it shone with blue ice. It was the ice of time, the prehistoric era. It sparkled from within, and from this piercing blue splendor a stream of water burst out with a cry of delight. He beat up, then fell in the rays of the rainbow to the ground and ran down. And we stood, stunned, shocked by this extraordinary spectacle. My friend was praying, my friend used non-parliamentary expressions, and I stupidly repeated “it can’t be, it can’t be, it just can’t be…”
I want you to see it!
