When you take the City of Art tour, be prepared for unexpected expenses, and quite significant ones. The tour does not include: headphones for rental excursions for 25 euros, a boat to Venice for 25 euros (without paying, you will spend the whole day on the shore), hotel tax from 1 to 4 euros per day, mandatory (!) Tips for a tour operator, bus driver and accompanying person 15 euros, etc. In Rome, you will be accommodated in a hotel on the outskirts (~ 40 minutes walk to the final metro station), a bus and metro ticket each costs 1.5 euros. In total, expenses accumulate like a snowball, and if you are not traveling alone, then feel free to add another 300 euros to the trip. Or better, more.

If you have not paid for a guided tour of, for example, Assisi or Sienna, you will be dropped off at a gas station five kilometers from the city. You can walk perfectly, you can drive these five kilometers by public transport, no problem.

The trick is that when you return to this gas station to get back on the tour bus, the driver will go to the city from which you left an hour ago, so as not to be late, pick up people who paid for the tour. The company specifically drops off and picks up unpaid tourists in a place that is inconvenient, that they pay, that it is uncomfortable and scary to navigate in unfamiliar places.

Separately, I want to mention the escort on this tour - if you come across a lady whose name is Eva Kirdulite, you will receive during each move (starting from 45 minutes to 3-4 hours) a story without a single pause about: how much the school uniform costs, how Eva bought a stroller for a baby, how she gave her friends phallic pasta, information about exactly how Italian women get pregnant and give birth, what Eva’s first education is, that she knows eight languages, how she pays taxes in Lithuania, how her friend spent her honeymoon, what French women don’t get manicures until they are 50, how her mother bought olive oil, how her neighbor took a loan from a bank for dental treatment, about much, much, much more, as well as a ton of tales about her experience with tourists, swearing priests, dying women and lost grandmothers. This is undoubtedly very useful information, absolutely necessary on a tour of that name.

Sleep (and you have to get up every day at 6 o'clock, have an exceptionally meager breakfast in the form of one croissant or a piece of sweet pie, and in an hour you are already on the bus), discussing plans in the next city, reading literature on the topic of the trip - all this is a waste time. Knowledge about the life of Eva and her friends and relatives is really valuable knowledge that you will bring from this trip.
