I don’t like noisy resorts, huge beaches, continuous eating and stupid sunbathing to the point of loss of consciousness and health... Moreover, my wife and I have already turned 100 years old for two... Therefore, fate presented us with a small surprise in the form of a cozy quiet town with a glorious ancient history and culture. This is Bulgarian Sozopol - almost on the very border with Turkey, which made it possible to also visit Istanbul... You could also visit Marmaris... But two weeks, of course, is not enough... The old part of the city is just a museum and an architectural monument in the open air... The only difference is that people live in this museum and they are PERSONALLY very glad to YOU ... Professionals and amateurs of photography are simply paradise here. Inexpensive hotels, good food, friendly people, almost understandable language - all this makes rest calm and relaxed... We stayed in two hotels "Villa List" and "Fjord"... The first one was inhabited by solid German pension couples... It was nice to watch how they support each other go for breakfast and dinner... They always greeted those sitting next to them... The old people drank their rakia (vodka) or beer decorously... They "cheered" noisily for their football teams in the hall, where a huge plasma hung... Their grandmothers were quietly discussing something on the terrace... After what he saw, it became bitter for most of our grandfathers and fathers, survivors, VICTORIES in the war, but never managed to enjoy life in their declining years... All the hotel staff speak English and German... Young boys and girls... Students. In Soviet times, Bulgaria was called the 16th republic of the USSR. So, today the Bulgarians have confidently entered the European Union and are gradually getting rid of "soviet" habits and illusions... Unlike us...

I can not say about cafes and restaurants... There is a "struggle" for each visitor... The main goal is to SATISFY the client. I liked the fish restaurants and dishes... Especially "Mehana Chuchura" on Rybarskaya Street... In general... it was possible to book a hotel without meals... My wife really liked ice cream... Its unprecedented variety... Unfortunately, there were no high-quality hard cheeses... In general, the assortment of dairy products looked poor.

In early September, every year Sozopol hosts the festival of arts "Apollonia" (by the way, this is the ancient name of the city)... Various folk, jazz, theater groups perform... You can buy clay products from folk craftsmen... And of course silver... For lovers of products made of this metal, here is PARADISE...

You can go on excursions organized or on your own by renting a car. . . Stara Zagora, Gabrovo, Varna, Sofia. . . And most importantly, if possible, be sure to visit NESSEBAR, a city under UNESCO protection, an architectural pearl of Bulgaria. You can get from Sozopol on your own by bus with a change in Burgas or with a tour. . .

In conclusion, I also want to note that the Bulgarians take care of their shrines and monuments. . . The remains of an ancient settlement were discovered not far from the new beach. . . All construction projects were prohibited in this place, entrepreneurs and companies received new plots. Archaeologists became the owners for a certain period. . . Funds for research are allocated by the state and the European Union.

This year we will try to visit Sozopol again!
