I went to Minsk to do vision correction. I did not trust my eyes to our doctors. And for the price with the road there and back it turned out the same. In addition, it was interesting how people live here under the "Old Man".

The city is clean and beautiful in its own way. But there was an impression that they froze in the times of the USSR. They still have statues of Lenin, pentacles on the walls and the Soviet coat of arms on the buildings. All the buildings are strictly rectangular, unimaginative, no columns, moldings, round balconies, etc. The streets are empty. It was unusual, since we always have a lot of people walking in the evening, especially young people. There are few beautiful monuments, but the state library is very unusual. It changes its color and is built in the form of a polyhedron. As I was told, one day all the money disappeared from the mobile account of all the inhabitants of Belarus and an SMS message “Thank you for your contribution to the construction of the state library” came. So the library was built at the expense of the people.

They were also struck by traffic lights and pedestrian crossings. The pedestrian there is a holy man. He can stand on the road, pick his nose and everyone is patiently waiting for him to pass. No one honks or swears. A traffic light is on for up to 3 minutes. It was very unusual for me.

It is also interesting that no one here speaks Belarusian. It is not even taught in all schools. Strange. . . Everyone speaks Russian. All books, medicines, etc. are written only in Russian.

And there are security cameras everywhere. Even in hallways. There was a case: a guy stole a bicycle from the yard, he did not have time to go around the corner with him, as the police were already waiting for him there. Cameras in the elevator, in the stores, along the streets… well, everywhere! You are under attack! They probably got used to it, but I somehow felt uneasy.

In general, Minsk is a beautiful city in its own way, but somehow sad. I am used to brighter decorations, beautiful architecture, fountains, flowers, light bulbs, etc. It seems that he is hiding and waiting for something... Or scared...
