Review of the tour "Italy - a taste of temptation" - from Accord

Travel time: 18.09. 2010 - 01.10. 2010

from Prague to Florence

After a trip to Spain, we decided it was time to get acquainted with Italy. The tour was chosen for a long time from many offers and stopped at the 14-day tour "Italy is a taste of temptation". The second half of September seemed to be one of the most attractive dates for us, and we were not mistaken in time. I must warn you at once that my review is not addressed to connoisseurs of Italy and Prague, but to tourists who want to go to Prague, Italy and Rome for the first time. I will not present historical information, but will describe my impressions and, if possible, give practical advice.

The trip began, as predicted by the infolist, at 10-30. The leader of the band is Marek Volokh. We left Lviv on a Ukrainian bus, after crossing the border we moved to a Polish bus with driver Irek. In Russian, Irek is very good.

He often helped women pack their bags in the trunk.

For me, the only negative point in the tour was that the whole tour we had only one driver. We admired his skill as a driver, but the bus settling time instead of 9 hours was all 11 hours. And it was thanks to our time. Although, there were pros in such an hour of extra rest in the morning.

The leader of the group Marek showed himself at his best: he gave a lot of interesting additional information, did not impose electives, gave full answers to all questions and useful advice. The group numbered 36 people, there were no children. Almost the entire group was from eastern and southern Ukraine, and Marek at the beginning of the tour asked the groups: in what language should he communicate with the group? The group wished in Russian, and the whole tour Marek spoke with the group in Russian.

For me, the choice of language is not of fundamental importance, but as it turned out, for others it was important.

The border at the Krakovets checkpoint was crossed in about 2.5 hours.

There was almost no inspection, the Poles took one suitcase to choose from, looked at it. It was a woman's suitcase, there was no alcohol or cigarettes in it, and we were quickly let through. 20 km from the border in the parking lot moved to the Polish bus. An old Mercedes, but everything worked fine. Compared to my three trips with the Accord, buses with Ukrainian license plates and Ukrainian drivers were even better than this Polish bus. That's why I don't understand my enthusiasm for Polish buses, whether we were so lucky with this bus. The police in Germany twice stopped our bus on the way to Italy and back, and checked not the tourists, but the documents for the bus and the driver.

At the border in front of us was a bus that took us to Spain in the summer: "Neoplan" with Ukrainian license plates and our two Ukrainian drivers. They went to Switzerland.

I came to the conclusion that our buses run with only two drivers, and Poles and Hungarians sometimes hack and start buses with one driver. Maybe not always, but they have such cases.

The first day is transit, with all the stops for toilets and snacks. The group is not organized yet, so it takes more time. After a snack, Marek offered to take turns to go to the microphone and introduce himself. Whoever wanted to, went out and imagined. It is clear that it was difficult to remember everyone at once. We remembered only those who sat in front of us, behind and on the side. Almost all tourists are no longer newcomers, have previously traveled on bus tours.

Our first transit hotel Flora 3 * in Olomouc. We arrived at about 23 o'clock European time.

The room is good, there is a hairdryer, bar, telephone. The shower is a complete set of shampoo gels.

Breakfast at the hotel: a good buffet. Departure is not early, at 9 o'clock.

In the morning we managed to go for a walk in the park and walk to the main street. It was Sunday, the city was resting, and everything was closed. 380 km to Prague. In front of Prague is a short stop for a snack and an exchange of money. Exchange rate 1E = 23.5 crowns. In Prague, in the center of Wenceslas Square behind the New Yorker store, there is an exchange office with a higher rate than elsewhere: there was 24.2 kroner for 1E without commission. Therefore, you should not immediately change a large amount of money, but only a small one for the first purchase. Arrived in Prague at about 13 o'clock.

A guide to Prague, Maya, very interesting and not tiring spent a great tour.

We started from the top of Prague Castle, entered the Cathedral of St. Vitus, then down the old street Nerudova went down to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, on the way watched and listened to the stories of all the interesting houses on this street. We turned away from the cathedral and visited the Church of the Virgin Mary, which houses a figure of the baby Jesus.

Maya said that this is not part of the mandatory program, but she wants to show us another Prague, and we did not object. The inspection did not take much time, the main thing is the figurine of the baby Jesus behind the glass and his clothes donated by many famous people. After visiting the church with the baby Jesus returned back to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas and went to Charles Bridge. In front of the bridge there is an information office, where we took maps of Prague, which came in handy the next day.

Slowly, we passed Charles Bridge with photo stops and traditional rubbing of bas-reliefs with cult figures on the bridge, then from the bridge we went not to the Old Town Square, but to the yard of the Clementinum complex, and out to the Jewish Quarter. We walked through the Jewish Quarter with stops in the photo, and then went to the Old Town Square with all its beauties.

The Town Hall, the Tyn Temple, the Tower with the Astronomical Clock (Eagle), all the most famous places in Prague on this square. Listened, watched, took photos. Then Maya took us a short way to Wenceslas Square to the meeting place with Marek and said goodbye. Everyone liked the tour.

Marek gave us until 6 pm, and then we all went to the bus stop and went to the settlement to the hotel "Korall 3 *" in the area of Prague 9. From Wenceslas Square, this is a direct 7th stop on the subway. The hotel is 100 meters from the metro station "Strizkov", which is very convenient. The hotel is small and there is no elevator.

There is no hairdryer or refrigerator in the room, I took the hairdryer at the reception for free. Perishable products were also left on the reception in the refrigerator. The group went to the inn for 20 hours, but Marek himself did not advise us to go there, with our peculiarities of digestion. I thank him for telling me everything honestly.

We went to the Tesco supermarket, located 500 meters from the hotel, stocked up on food for two days, Czech beer, Czech wine "Frankivka" and returned to the hotel. We always take an electric kettle with us on tours, so we have no problems with tea and coffee. In addition, we always take a small stock of packaged puree soups. So dinner in a room with Czech beer was provided. After dinner we went out, walked around the hotel, but the new sleeping area, no historic sites. Those tourists who went to the inn liked it, they said it was a "bomb".

Breakfast is a buffet, not rich, but enough to keep you hungry. Thanks to the advice of experienced tourists, we have drawn up our program to conquer Prague on this day. The group went to Sikhrov, and my husband and I go to the metro station, buy 4 tickets for 26 crowns (for 75 minutes) and 2 tickets for 18 crowns (for 20 minutes).

These tickets were enough for us to travel around Prague all day, of course with pedestrian crossings. To begin, we go to Visegrad, for which we use the first two tickets for 26 crowns. From our hotel the red metro line there is a direct, non-stop 9th stop, so having distinguished ourselves on Visegrad Hill with a photo in memory, we have time for the same tickets to return to Wenceslas Square to the National Museum. We study it from the outside, a photo in memory, and now we walk from it to Charles Square, study it, and then go to the Vltava embankment to the Dancing House.

Again the photo and not in a hurry along the embankment with stops on the photo we go to the National Theater, from it to the Charles Bridge, and cross the bridge with mandatory stops near the monument to Jan Nepomuk, with photos in traditional places.

There are still very few people, we calmly inspect and photograph everything.

We go out again on the old street Nerudova, but now our way up it to Hradchanska Square. While rising and admiring the scenery, it was time to change the honor guard. Here we are just in the right place at the right time. I am filming the change of guard and we are happy to go inside the Castle for a leisurely inspection. Yesterday we were here, but with so many tourists that a normal review did not work. Today is Monday, and even lunch time and very few people, so we inspect everything without hindrance, and not in a hurry.

Then we go back to Hradč any Square, and now we are walking back down the same street to Charles Bridge. There are more people on Charles Bridge, and we do not stay there.

It's time for us to have lunch. We were recommended many different restaurants, but the closest on the way was the restaurant "In the voivode". It is next to the souvenir market, in an alley called Voevodova.

There is a menu in Russian. We order mushroom soup and knee with beer there. We eat slowly, eat soup, drink beer, do not overcome the knee together. Please wrap the waiter with you. Everyone understands me perfectly, takes our knee, separates the meat from the bone and packs it in a box with a lid. They paid 540 kroner for lunch with tips, which were included in the bill. At the rate of 24 crowns for 1 euro it is about 23 euros. Delicious, but not very cheap. In Budapest, we paid 15 euros for about the same lunch at the Paprika cafe.

After lunch, full and rested, we continue to explore Wenceslas Square, go to the souvenir market and start choosing souvenirs for ourselves and friends. We buy from a dozen magnets from 50 to 70 crowns for one. But my main goal is to buy a good book about Prague. I don't see such a thing in the market, I'm starting to pass souvenir shops around the market square.

In one such shop I have a book from the series "Art and History" - Prague. The price of 350 kroons is expensive. We start trading, the seller is a girl from Moldova, reduces the price by 30 crowns to 320. I understand that I will not buy cheaper and agree.

Next, we have planned the Old Town Square with Orloy. Let's go there, guess so as to come to the battle of the clock. Approached in 5 minutes to 18 hours. They chose a place near the tower, the people are so many again that you will not push. All group tours end at this time in this area. It is a pity that we sat in the restaurant for a long time.

And so the bell fight begins, the people are all quiet, I shoot again on video. Everything was quietly removed, no one pushed us. The last blow of the clock and soon the square was empty. Now you can safely browse and take photos again.

Today we still have "Singing Fountains" scheduled for 8 pm.

We were told how to get there, but we decided not to procrastinate and at 18-30 we go to the metro station on the yellow line Mustek, go to the station Florenc, there we cross the red line and go to the station Nadrazi Holesovice. There we take the tram №5 and go one stop towards the exhibition. Although you only need to go one stop, but it turned out it would be far on foot. Here we used our second tickets for the subway and the tram for 26 crowns. We arrived at the exhibition early at 19-30, we quietly buy tickets for 200 crowns for one. Pavarotti's concert is scheduled for 8 p. m. While we look around, the people are pulling up, it's mostly tourists.

The evening was quite cool, it's good that I had a warm stole with me. So the advice to those tourists who will go to the fountains, dress warmly, or take stoles with you. There are a lot of free places, we choose a number above, from it fountains are better visible. But you need to sit down so as not to interfere with the visor for video. The play started at 20-05.

Fountains with light illumination, accompanied by music, in our case it was a Pavarotti concert. For those who have not yet seen the singing fountains, this is an interesting sight. I was waiting for more. Compared to Barcelona, Prague's fountains are not as colorful and powerful. And the appearance of fuzzy images of the singer and orchestra on the background of the fountain does not add brightness to the fountains. Half the time we saw only vague images on the water in the dark, not the colorful streams of fountain water. We didn't like it.

But this is my personal opinion, and maybe not everyone will agree with it. The show itself lasts about 40 minutes. So at 20-45 we left the fountains.

Now we take the tram again and go one stop in the opposite direction to the metro. There we get on the subway train and go 3 stops to our station "Strizkov" near the hotel.

The last tickets for 18 crowns and were used by us to return from the fountains to the hotel by tram and subway for 20 minutes. Thus, we in Prague used 140 crowns for public transport for three trips together. In euro terms, it is almost 6 euros. By the way, we have never been checked by controllers. But we honestly punched tickets everywhere.

So we left the hotel at 9 o'clock in the morning and returned to it after 9 o'clock. In a day we walked, in my opinion, 15 kilometers. But we were very pleased with both Prague and myself.

Now we have to have dinner, which we prepared for Tesco the night before and we will have a rest. Tomorrow is the day of moving on. The rest of the beauty of Prague was left until the next arrival to want to return here.

Breakfast is the same as yesterday, and we leave the hotel at 8-00. We will have to cover 380 km to Munich again.

Here on the way to Munich we were stopped by German police, the inspection did not take long, because they only checked the documents for the bus and driver. Their tourists were not interested. Therefore, the myth that buses with Polish numbers are not checked has not been confirmed. The Germans apparently have their own claims against the Poles.

Arrived in Munich at about 14 o'clock, picked up a guide to Munich Evelyn, and went on a bus tour.

We did not leave the Nymphenburg Castle, we saw it only from the bus window, then we arrived in the area of Marienplatz, and from there we went on a walking tour of the historic part of Munich. I liked the tour. Evelina in a Bavarian national costume looked very bright on the streets of the city, and against our background. Improvised carts with elegant Munich people in Bavarian costumes roamed the streets, because Oktoberfest took place in them.

But the tour did not interfere, Evelina took us through three central squares, and back we walked through their shopping arcade with hanging gardens.

At Marienplatz we say goodbye to Evelina, and again we go all this way slowly, and still go to the royal park. Then we return to the square and go to the market, look around, buy dried meat at the market and take it with us to dinner, as well as vegetables and grapes. The meat cost 17.5 euros per kg.

, Italian grapes, delicious at 1.7 euros per kg. And of course beer. In the market there was a beer hall with tables right on the street, there were no free seats at the tables. We sat down near one of the fruit tents and had a snack. There is a drinking fountain with good water right on the market. There I washed my hands and grapes and took a bottle with me.

The group's gathering place is at Marienplatz near the fountain with the fish, and at 6 pm the whole group leaves for the bus.

Some of us managed to take the metro to Terezin Meadow, where the main Oktoberfest festival took place, but we decided not to spray, it was better to visit the historic center for the first visit to Munich. And you have to come to Oktoberfest separately. After Munich we drive another 190 km to the transit hotel to the Alps in the Innsbruck area. Arrive at the Hotel Altenbyrg no later than about 21 hours. Some of the band still managed to go to the local pub. The hotel is again cozy and comfortable, with a hairdryer.

Early morning rise, great breakfast: buffet. We leave the hotel and gasp in amazement - around the high mountain peaks, but still without snow, such clean air that began to dizzy from excess oxygen, and local houses with hanging beds on the walls. The photo session against this beauty begins. The early departure did not work out: one young couple sat in a beer hall in the evening, and allegedly confused the time of departure an hour later.

So we still had time to admire the local scenery. Finally, everyone got together and we went to Italy.

The first city of Verona. It is 250 km away. If they had left earlier, they would have been in Verona by 12 o'clock, and so they arrived an hour later. Giovanna's guide was waiting for us in Verona. The tour is standard for this city: Arena, historic center with temples, history of two famous families, Romeo's house, Juliet's courtyard. In Juliet's yard, we say goodbye to Giovanna, having previously asked where the supermarket is.

Italian beer "Peroni" was 55 cents per share per can, meat delicacies range from 10 to 17 euros per 1 kg. Some products were 30-40% cheaper on the stock. The wine, coffee, beer and meat were great, but the olive oil, in my opinion, is too bitter. I don't like that. Although we were told that the first-squeezed oil should be bitter, I don't like it very much. The price of this oil of the first extraction in Tivoli was 10 euros per 1 liter, and Verona is cheaper.

The whole group was shopping in this supermarket. There is a Russian-speaking manager in the trading hall, so he helped us all with his consultations, led some by the hand around the hall and showed where and what is, and gave a description of the goods. At the box office you can buy a large strong branded package, in which we put all our purchases. These packages are yellow with the brand name "RAM". The trunk of the bus immediately turned yellow from many packages.

Coffee and olive oil were especially popular. One tourist bought 7 packs of 1 kg of coffee beans there. Some tourists bought olive oil in iron cans of 5 liters for 15 euros. We limited ourselves to a 1 liter bottle in a glass.

At 5 pm we gather in the Arena square near the fountain, and we all go to the bus stop to go on to Florence. Florence will be another 250 km away. If our driver did not confuse the location of the hotel, we would have arrived early, and so had to look for our hotel for about an hour. Arrived at 22 o'clock.

He was wanted in the city of Florence, and it was located in the province of Florence, 12 km from the city. Hotel "Delta Florence 4 *". Rooms are nice, cozy, hair dryer, bar, telephone. But it is located next to the highway and the window could not be opened because it was very noisy. We spent two nights in it. The hotel has an outdoor pool, but it was already cold to swim in because it is unheated.

Breakfast: good buffet.

And now the two of us go back again and do it all the way on our own. Photo near the cult boar, be sure to rub his piglet for happiness, photo near the golden "Gates of Paradise", near all the famous sculptures in Signoria Square. Then we went to the Vecchio Bridge for a photo, and on the way back we walked through the galleries of Uffizi.

Before the tour, Svetlana handed out a map of Florence, and we were easy to navigate. Then at 2 pm Marek takes everyone to the local fast food cafe.

I did not experience pleasant emotions from dinner, I did not like the famous tiramisu dessert. Bitter coffee jelly. Well, as they say: the taste and color.

At 15 o'clock we go to the station again and go to Pisa. Almost the whole group went to Pisa, only a few people remained in Florence.

Of course, the photos there are unique. This Pisa Square of Miracles impressed me much more than the main square of Florence with its cathedral. There is no such prospect for sightseeing, and so for all the beauty of the Baptistery, the Cathedral and the Giotto's Bell Tower, they are lost in the narrowness of the city. But again, this is my subjective opinion.

After the tour we have about 40 minutes of free time. They go for photos and buy souvenirs. At 18-40 we all return to the bus. The entire visit to Pisa takes about 2 hours. Very little! We return to Florence for the tourists who stayed there, and go to the hotel to rest.

Tomorrow we will see Rome.

To be continued…
