The three of us rested with my wife and son for 10 years, from November 5 to November 14.2014. We chose for a long time where to take our son for the November holidays, but due to the appreciation of the dollar, Southeast Asia disappeared immediately and only Egypt remained from visa-free warm countries. Hurghada prevailed over Sharm el-Sheikh, because. in Sharm there is mostly a rocky entrance to the sea, and we had a trip for our son. From the price-quality ratio, we chose several hotels. The Royal Azur Resort 5 * in Makadi Bay was chosen for the reason that the reviews about the hotel were mostly positive. And in the title, the word "Royal" spoke of quality. We decided to check it out ourselves.
The operator is TEZ TOUR, proven and reliable, there were no problems with transfers, or with guides at the hotel and on excursions.
Airline - Ural Airlines, all flights without delay. But in terms of the quality of takeoff and landing, we did not understand what it was. Both in Hurghada and in Yekaterinburg, the plane took off as if it were a fighter jet, soared so sharply that it pressed against the seats. And the landings were such that our pilot was either a cadet or a former pilot of a fighter plane coming in for a landing under fire. Just before landing, the plane veered sharply to the left and right, all the time turning somewhere. I got the impression that I could not get into the glide path. But sat down both times safely, thank God. In the EKB, the passengers of the aircraft clapped their hands twice: after touching the landing gear on the runway and after braking the aircraft.

The Royal Azur hotel is quite decent, with a well-groomed territory and friendly (even well-trained) staff. The contingent of vacationers in the hotel: Russians, Germans, Ukrainians, Belarusians, Russian-speaking Balts, heard French speech, there were few local Arabs.
We arrived at the hotel at 10 o'clock, and the check-in was only from 14-15 o'clock. But while we were sitting in the lobby drinking tea and coffee and filling out questionnaires, about half an hour passed. And at 11 o'clock we were offered a room, but not ours, which is still being prepared, but similar to ours, but a little further from the center. We did not object and agreed.
Previously, the hotel had some preferences for those who come a second or more times. But after the change of owners since 2014, this preference is no longer there, everyone is equal.
The weather in the first half of November was quite pleasant during the day, on average 28-29 degrees, but in the evenings it dropped to 17-18, which is quite bearable for me, but my wife and son wore long-sleeved T-shirts. Windbreakers were not needed, although they were taken just in case. The water in the sea was cold, the exact temperature was not measured, but it felt no more than 22-24, we have such a temperature in the lakes in Siberia in the summer. It was quite cold to enter the water, but once you get used to it, you can swim. Of the three pools, one was heated (medium), the other two - with cold water. It seemed to me that only “walruses” swam there. And the pools are bars with drinks, the staff works quickly, there are few people.
Alcohol in the lobby is free until 02-00, later - for a fee.

The entrance to the sea is gentle, because. it is a cove, good for those with small children. There are practically no stones at the bottom, it is convenient to enter. There are not enough sun loungers by the sea, everything is done from 8 - 9 o'clock in the morning, literally one more row is missing. If you come later, you will have to look for free places, but sometimes it is possible to find. The pools are freer, especially those farther from the sea, there are always places. The beach staff - well done, they themselves go to you, dragging sunbeds and mattresses, looking for free places. There are almost always places on the cape on the left, but this is away from the entrance to the bathing area. If you want to go out for lunch and secure a place for yourself, then it’s enough to throw something on the sunbeds filled with towels (pareo, cap, bag), no one will take the place. On the beach, free windsurfing, canoes and catamarans (30 minutes). Aside - archery, boccia, tennis, table tennis, billiards, volleyball, camel riding. For a fee: horseback riding, quad bikes, water puddles, water banana. If you are active, there is something to do.
In the main restaurant, the assortment is sufficient, although without any frills, but if you eat everything, then it is impossible to stay hungry. Food is the weak point of the hotel, because mostly potatoes, rice and pasta. Fish is regularly eaten, but it is only the cheapest: sole or telapia. Meat: chicken and beef, often cooked dry, including grilled. I cook much tastier and juicier myself. Occasionally come across squid stewed or in a salad. There are always queues for meat, and in the morning for scrambled eggs, but they move fast enough.
Lots of sweets, but not enough fruits, only dates, oranges and sometimes melons and persimmons. Once we saw the remains of grapes, the bowl with grapes was quickly dismantled and no longer carried out. A watermelon would greatly save the situation: inexpensive and everyone likes it.
Lunch - at the beach restaurant. Previously, they say, lunch was also in the main restaurant, where breakfast and dinner were served. The problem with the seats, if you came a little later than the start of lunch. The waiters are hard at work. Everything is in line. Sometimes it’s easier to take fast food and sandwiches from the main restaurant. Alcoholic drinks and juices in the beach restaurant bar are poured into disposable plastic cups: both for taking to the beach and for drinking in the restaurant itself during lunch. This is in a 5* hotel!

Everyone goes to the main restaurant more or less decently, especially for dinner (trousers instead of shorts, dresses instead of pareos, t-shirts and shirts instead of T-shirts). But for lunch at a beach restaurant - whoever is in what much, practically in bathing suits, putting on only a pareo or a T-shirt, some even in wet swimsuits from which they drip. That's why they moved lunch to a beach restaurant, which is difficult to enforce the dress code. Although the hotel rules state that you can’t come to the restaurant like that. Question: why write non-executable rules, or why is there no control over the execution of rules? This is bad manners for a 5 * hotel, then they would not impose bans at all, if they do not require execution.
In restaurants, there are generally few waiters, they do not have time to reserve tables so that the next ones who come to the restaurant a little later can sit down. Or is it the waiters moving slowly, because. Do dirty dishes pile up on the tables? For dinner, a long wait for the ordered drinks (wine, beer, etc. ), while they carry it, I already had dinner.
In general, you need to come to restaurants either at the very opening, or later, after about an hour. If the containers with cooked food are empty, this does not mean that you did not have time to try, you need to wait 5-10 minutes, they will be replaced, just the cooks slowly take out a new portion of food.
On November 7-8, many tourists left, it became a little freer. Looks like the holidays are over.
The souvenir shops have a good assortment and prices, but it would be better to move some of them from the second floor down to other shops in a crowded place instead of a pharmacy.
There is a small corner with electronic games for children: car racing, air hockey, Tetris for prizes and power. But everything is expensive (the game is $2, Tetris for prizes is $1). But the hookah at the amphitheater is inexpensive, only $ 2.
The rooms are quite decent, the cleaning is of high quality, always at the time when we are at sea. It's amazing how it worked out. We used to rest in Hurghada at the Ali Baba hotel, so the cleaner always came there at the time, as soon as we returned from the sea to rest for half an hour before dinner. Where was he before? Naturally, we told him not to interfere with us, and he left, happy and contented, until the next day. And in order to do the cleaning later, I had to hang a special tag on the door, often to no avail. This hotel has everything on time. The main thing is not to forget about the tip.

In the bathroom-toilet there is not a traditional set of small shampoos, but just a body and hair gel in a container on the wall above the bathtub and sink. The smell is pleasant and washes well. But for washing (swimsuit, shorts, etc. ) you need to take your own soap.
The minibars in the room only had free soda (cola and sprite) and water, which were replenished. At least one bottle or can of beer is missing. Tea and coffee are also replenished daily.
The rooms have safes, hair dryer in the room, not in the bathroom. On TV there are three Russian channels and one German in Russian (probably for Russian-speaking Germans).
In our wing on the 1st floor and in another part of the territory, it often smelled of sewage. On our appeal, the guide said that they did not have time to pump out the septic tank.
You can use the services of the territory of the AZUR CLUB hotel next to the right: walk, attend evening shows and the beach, order drinks. Restaurants, however, are by appointment only.
There is a children's town, but simple, for kids. In the neighboring hotel - the same.
The Internet in the hotel is very expensive, they did not take it. A call to Russia from the reception phone - $ 3 (we were called by vacationers). For five stars it would be possible to make free wi-fi, at least in the lobby. Even in Vietnam and Cambodia, there are no problems with free Wi-Fi anymore. I didn’t use the Internet at the hotel, I managed to check my mail and read the news on the bus while on the tour. TEZ has free wi-fi on the big buses, the password is teztouregypt.
The Lobby has an ATM, a natural oils shop, a couple of billiard tables (pool). You can smoke almost everywhere, even in restaurants and in the lobby, which is annoying for non-smokers. On the street at the exit there is a machine for wrapping luggage with film, so as not to fuss at the airport.
