Haven't been to Marsa Alam before. Therefore, they chose "Jaz Maraya" - #1 in many ratings.
In Sharm and Hurghada were 15 times.
We will compare with the last ones we visited: "Fun & Sun Albatros Palace" (absolutely new - were in May) and "Sunrise Royal Makadi" (were in January).
1. Airplane.

We flew 3 hours 40 minutes. During the flight, all passengers are offered 0.5 liters of water.
2. Transfer. The hotel is 10 km away. We drove for about 20 minutes. In addition to "Jaz Maraya", the guests were taken to three more hotels of the "Jaz" network. All in one area. Retsepshina 3-minute drive from each other.

3. Meeting. We were the only ones who came to this hotel. From the reception you can see the sea - "+". Pastel colors, relaxing, quiet music - "+". No one offered water or a soft drink - "-". They asked for passports and a voucher. Representatives of the hotel themselves filled everything - "+".
We arrived around 09:00. The keys to the room were ready to provide us immediately - "+".
Since we do not like to stay on the ground floor, we asked our travel agent in advance to write a request to the hosteler to provide a room higher than the first one. And. . . Naturally, we were given the keys to the room on the ground floor. They asked to change. We heard a hackneyed phrase: "All rooms are occupied (as it turned out later, the hotel was filled with a maximum of 70% that day). But you check in, and in two days we will replace your room or pay extra for a room of a higher category (we had paid " family with a view of the park (garden)") or with a direct view of the sea ($ 25 / night supplement)". One gets the impression that when you ask not to give a number, it will be given to you in order to try to get money - "-". And this despite the fact that the senior manager told us this. The first impression is the most important. The staff managed to ruin it.
4. Number.
We looked at the room on the first floor, which we were offered initially. Windows overlooking the children's slide and the restaurant (10 meters). The windows would have to be kept closed at all times.
We looked at two rooms "with a sea view". On the second floor (view partly of the sea, partly of the building of a neighboring hotel and a volleyball court). The room has a double bed + two sofas.
On the third floor (sea view is partially blocked by the veranda on which the restaurant is located). Double bed + bunk bed.
We paid extra for a room on the third floor ("1243"). They promised to give a receipt for the surcharge later. Not allowed. They promised to give $5 change later. They didn't give it. Level!
The plus of the room, for which we paid extra, is that the mattresses in the double bed are quite wide and hard, which is much better for sleeping children than sleeping on sofas.
5. Territory.

The territory is very small, but compact. Only two 3-storey buildings with rooms for living. The first one is closer to the sea. It has only 10 rooms with direct sea views (five on the first floor with their own small pools, 5 on the second). In the rest of the rooms with sea views, one way or another, something partially blocks the view. The second building - with a view of the kids club and children's pool on one side and the neighboring hotel on the other.
Two pools. Playground for children's water games. Patio with playground. Platform for children's animation and evening shows.
6. Nutrition.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner - in the main restaurant. Burgers, cheeseburgers, etc. - in the snack bar by the pool (on the menu) during the day. Three a la carte restaurants.
On the first day, the senior waiter (manager) in the main restaurant was unpleasantly surprised. Breakfast until 10:00. We came with hungry, tired children after the plane, transfer and accommodation at 10:05. All the food was still on the tables. He happily greeted, apologized and said that he would not be able to serve us. He sent me to a snack bar, saying that we could eat there right now. But it turned out that the snack bar starts serving at 12:15 - 12:30. Where is the highest degree of service, which was written in the reviews? There is no late breakfast. In the bar near the pool - a couple of buns and apples.
Comparison. At the Sunrise they returned late after the show. The main restaurant was no longer served. Cooks and waiters cleaned the grill and food containers. The children ran inside. The cook and two waiters stopped cleaning and asked what the kids wanted. They brought them to eat and served after hours. With a smile and jokes! You need to "grow up" to this level. It can be seen the senior waiter and senior manager of the hotel "Jaz Maraya" have not yet "grown up".

The food itself, compared to most 5 * hotels in Egypt, is quite high quality and tasty. There are no queues. The variety is small. But just enough. Of the minuses: a small selection of fruits and not always ripe. For breakfast, there is a small queue for an omelet. Not because of lazy chefs, as in "FUN & SUN", but because of elementary thoughtlessness. Put a deco with ready-made icing and omelettes and the issue will be resolved. Not to mention the poached and benedict eggs that we have for breakfast in high-end hotels in other countries, but not in Egypt. In this hotel, ordinary fried bacon for breakfast was only once. In the same "Sunrise" the variety of dishes for breakfast is a cut above.
Ice cream in packs (frozen juice) - during the day in the snack bar. "Balls" - in the evening in the main restaurant near the grill.
7. Beach.
It simply doesn't exist. Directly in front of the hotel there is only a descent into a small bay, where you can go knee-deep into the water in "corals". Stones and waves will not allow further.
If you look at the sea, on the right, 300 meters there is a sandy beach. Entry into the sea - in the "coral". There is also a pontoon. The reef is not as rich as in "FUN & SUN", but there are enough fish for an inexperienced tourist.
On the left, 500 meters away, there is a bay with a sandy children's beach. There is also a pontoon. But the reef is worse than that of the pontoon on the right. Behind the bay is a hotel for adults (children under 16 are not allowed). There is the richest reef with turtles. It is 2 kilometers from the hotel.
8. "Kids club". It is, but practically does not function. In the usual sense, there is a children's club "Jaz Salaya" 200 meters away.
9. Gym. He is not. There are small rooms with a few machines at Jaz Salaya and other nearby hotels.
10. Service and animation.
Combined into one, because everyone is great, unobtrusive and diligent. Evening shows - none. But for people who come to relax, it does not matter. If you like noisy parties, this is not the place for you.
11. Alcohol.
They only drank beer and red wine. As for Egypt - normal. Ordered a few cocktails - better not to order. This is not Rixos Sungate, where we were asked what kind of rum "gold", "platinum" or "" to add to "mojitos". But everywhere there is a price.
12. Weather.
The weather is great, despite the wind. Air temperature - 30-32 °, water - 28 °. Evenings are very comfortable. Sometimes they wore jackets, sweatshirts or sweatshirts.
13. Aqua park.
Great place for kids and adults. Admission is free for Jaz Maraya guests.
