Hotel ratings by criteria:
We were in this hotel recently, the memories are the freshest and the best.
The hotel is located in the eastern part of Crete, about 70-80 km from Heraklion (the transfer takes about 2 hours, by car 40 minutes less).
I’ll make a reservation right away - the hotel is for those who are for a relaxing holiday, there is nothing for fans to hang out there, although the aniators try and offer something new every evening (there are no discos with dancing until the morning). The contingent is 80-90% pensioners from Germany and France. There are also vacationers from Russia, but much less. The staff mainly communicates in English or German, but they can also say a few words in Russian. Those. basic knowledge of English + Russian will be enough for you to solve minor issues. By the way, several representatives of travel agencies are on duty at the hotel (Mouzenidis, Tez-tour), they will also always help with language problems. We had a room overlooking the pool, the sea covers half of Kolokita, so the view is more of a bay than of the sea. The room is not very big, but always clean, tiles on the floor. I recommend to close the curtain from the sun in the morning, the sun is very burning. But at the same time, the wind constantly blows - in the morning from the sea, in the evening - from the mountains. The territory is very large, but always clean and well-groomed. There are 2 swimming pools - one below the main building, next to the bar. And there are more people around him. The second one is a little higher, there are fewer people, but you have to go down the stairs to the bar. The food is very good, everything is always fresh. If you are going to travel around Crete, HB will be enough for you, it is better to use the difference for other entertainment. But if you realize that this does not suit you, then the hotel offers a transition to FB or AI for quite reasonable money. The beach near the sea is small pebbles, but the depth is decent enough, especially for those who are not confident in their abilities, but for this there is a pool inside the pier. If there is a desire, there is the village of Elounda in the mines, there are several beaches with a flatter bottom, but there are sea urchins (the water is clear, they are very clearly visible - a black ball the size of a tennis ball), so especially with children you need to be careful.

Excursions in the hotel is better not to take (expensive). For example - from Elounda to the island of Spinalonga you can get for 10 euros, from Agios Nikolas a 4-hour boat trip with swimming in the open sea and entering the island - 15 euros. The hotel price is 40 euros (albeit with a barbecue). Elounda can be reached on foot, Agios Nikolaos is 15 minutes by normal bus for 1.7 euros per person. For children under 18 entrance tickets are free. You can rent a car - both near the hotel and in Elounda there are a lot of rental agencies. But if you are going to drive not only along the coast, you need to take a more powerful car, for a family of 3 people they took 1.4 liters of VW POLO - not a fountain, especially if you drive along mountain roads. Traffic is acceptable, but it's best not to exceed 90 km/h on the highway, in us. points - 50 km/h. Therefore, if you are aiming to visit as many local attractions as possible, it will be costly and inconvenient without a car. But gasoline is very expensive, about 1.75-1.80 euros / liter. It is better to look at souvenirs in Agios Nikolaos, in Elounda it is still more expensive. Yes, and the town itself is worth a look, it will take a little time, but there are a lot of impressions. Useful advice - if you arrive there by bus, immediately ahead 20 m and on the right there will be a municipal tour bureau, where there are free materials, including in Russian.
